re: Gas supply problems

Interesting thread of emails here. i have kept an eye on gas news and it doesnt look like situ will improve before this coming weekend. So the question is, are they still skiing in Boro and is there a hot shower in the hotels (Lion) for a freshen up apres ski? Good news is the weather is warming and the snow scheduled to fall early next week.

Hi There
I have just rung Thomsons to ask what the situation is in borovetz.
Initially he said he did not have any further information other than what had been in the news. When I reminded him that I was inquiring about Thompson hotels he scuttled off and confirmed that all thompson hotels are now using oil. I also asked about the ski lifts and he said they were all running.
I assume all the cooking must be by electric.

His name was scott on telephone bookings.

I also read that the electicity is being cut off for several hours at a time to conserve gas supplies.

re: Gas supply problems

I have just returned from Borovets after a weeks skiing staying at the Rila Hotel.
There were no electricity cuts and the restuarants and bars in Borovets were not disrupted. One couple I skied with said there was no heat in their ground floor room of the hotel (Eidellweis) and yet another group in the same hotel on a different floor said they were boiling hot. The Ski instructors could only say that the hotels were trying to conserve energy during the day. So, ring your hotel direct and ...

All of the ski lifts were working but the weather was turning warmer and the snow was melting.
Borovets was a rip off - charging above English prices e.g. £5 for a bowl of chips on the mountain or £5 for a bowl of soup.
I visited Sofia - give it a miss!

re: Gas supply problems

we also stayed in the Rila and no problems. I agree chips on the mountain were expensive, but not alot of choice. also had to pay a Lev for the loo.

We too visited Sofia hated the tour and the shops not much to talk about wished we had stayed in Borovets for another massage at the ice angel hotel. Only 40 lev for 45 mins and use of the sauna steam room and Jacuzzi, thats what I would recommend.
