saying that there is doubly pricing is just not correct. If a Bulgarian walks into a bar/restaurant in Borovets they will pay the same price as someone from UK, France, Russian etc. The price will be several times what you would pay in a local town 10km away (Samokov for example) but the price is the same for everyone. What does happen (it is the same in France, Austria, US) is that people who work in the resort get discounts that the tourists don't get. By this I don't mean Bulgarian workers only. I know many UK people in Borovets for the season and they get substantial discounts in almost all bars and restaurants. This is the same the world over however and there is good economic reasons for it.

I will of course agree that some places will try it on with prices. For example the average price for a beer in Borovets is 2-4 leva but of course there are places that will ask 6leva. These places need to learn the hard way by loosing business. You should just walk out.

money rules the world sometimes lack of it sometime too much of it! BG is a super place they just havn't progressed as fast as the tourists have. as already stated BG has always attracted the more social skiers with a hunger for fun many years ago it was dirt cheap but now price wise it has caught ip with the rest of europe. You get what you pay for in life! and in BG that is still the case. OK maybe the resort managers could take a trip or 2 to other european resorts and certainly there is plenty of room for improvement but with improvement comes cost and once the prices rise BG will cease to be value for money.

Accept the principle, but i would not say nessesarily that the raw product in France is markably more expensive..
A bottle of Kronebourg in a bar in Val'D'Isere retails for around 5 Euro, yet in the supermarket in Bourg St Maurice in the valley a case of 12 can be bought for around 15 Euro ????
Relate that to a bottle of Pirinska in Bansko, in a bar selling for around 3 lv, a bottle in the supermarket is 75 stidinki...

Lets go one further, a beer in a pub selling for around £2.50 - £3.00 can be bought in a supermarket for a lot less than £1.00...
Perhaps all can be considered rip offs...
Ultimately it is what you pay, and being honest i cannot buy a beer cheaper than what i can get one for here in Bansko. 1.25lv on happy hour in the `Irish Pub', that still relates to around 60p for half a litre....

I still think BG resorts are good value. However if the greed continues, and yes by some it is is greed I'm afraid ,then the resorts will lose their position in the marketplace as friendly, value for money resorts.

Lets hope the changes we are seeing in Pamporovo continue, but a quicker pace.

Also if a bar / restaurant is ripping you off, avoid it and tell everyone else too as well. Or try bars like the Rossignol on the slopes in Pamps; 3 lev a beer, food good , great service and inexpensive. Pack these place to the rafters and give places like the White Hart the volley
