Help !!! Calling all Knee Injury Experts

Just wondered if there is anyone that could offer help and advice for a knee injury. Whilst skiing last week I fell and twisted my knee, several times it popped clicked and locked. Having made it to the bottom of the slope and the Medical Centre, I had some xrays and tests was strapped up and given crutches and was advised to seek orthopedic advice on my return to the UK has I had probally torn my cruicate. Having made it to the bottom of the slope and the Medical Centre, I had some xrays and tests was strapped up and given crutches and was advised to seek orthopedic advice on my return to the UK has I had probally torn my cruicate. On returning home and seeing the orthopedics first in A & E and then out patients, I have had various diagnoses from cruictate damage, dislocated knee cap and now cartlidge damage. I am still on crutches and have to go back in a fortnight. Just wonder if anyone could offer any advice on knee injuries and how long it will be before I can get my summer fix of skiing at the Snowdome.

Thanks in advance Julie x

So basically what i`m saying it might be worth you going to see someone private and get their views and take it from there.

Thanks Mr P that is what we are going to do, go see someone private, think they need to scan the knee to see exactly what damage has been done.

Thanks again for the advice.

Julie, again I ain't no medic but have a damaged knee joint, worn knee cap as result of moped accident 20 years ago, it is now prone to clicking out of place and caused much pain, until I was advised to wear a Pinto knee brace, Google them, a fantastic brace that I wear for any really active sport, snowboarding, cycling, skateboarding, it keeps the knee in line and means painfree snowboarding, without it the knee becomes too painful to evan walk, get advice from a physio but it works for me. ...

I have been threatened with a knee joint replacement but hope to keep going without. Confused

Hi Julie,
I did a very similar thing 3 years ago....what I did was get some Bulgarian freinds to find a specialist in Sofia and payed private...the guy who looked at my knee was top notch explained all to me ...plastered me up and told me the course of rehabilitation...if you can not get it sorted on the NHS...he said come back to Bulgaria and no problem some freinds of his would sort me out. At that time if I remeber correctly I paid him circa £50 ...I could not gaurantee the ...

At that time if I remeber correctly I paid him circa £50 ...I could not gaurantee the price now but ..I advice you make Bulgarian freinds and get them to negotiate the prices. The big thing for me was that I was very impressed with the medical compitence...the NHS seem to be taking the most cost effect route for their budgets etc, etc

Hi Julie,
Getting an accurate diagnosis is the key here, and to do that you need to get proper scans/imaging done so that everyone knows exactly what they are dealing with. X-ray is not enough. That is the direction I would push in. Good luck.

I suggest finding someone who specialises in sports injuries. The NHS seem to treat all ages as if they are inactive older people. Ask around amongst sporty friends, they will know of one to recommend.

Hubby did his medial ligaments skiing. Was told just to rest it and take it easy Exclamation Fine if you are not running around after children and have to work and want to play sport.

Went to a sports injury clinic. Complete elevated rest for 3 weeks, hot and cold treatment, anti inflammatories. He continued hot and cold treatment for 6 months, gradually increased suggested exercises. Took a year before he could ski again and wore a support for that trip. No problems after that, even bowling (cricket).

Deep Heat now do a Deep Freeze which is alot easier than peas Exclamation

Good Luck Very Happy Very Happy

re: Help !!! Calling all Knee Injury Experts

I have had a knee problem for a while, some times very painful, dont know what causes it as I went to a consultant NHS and he told me if I didnt bend it, it would'nt hurt or lock!!!!!!! I asked how long he had been at uni as a five year old could have told me that, dont think he was impressed. Have had a few other people look at but learnt to live with it now, I take gloucosamine and that helps as heels cartlidge, hope you get a better result.
