Konw this is prob gonna seem really random but Ive read somewhere that you can go trekking up in the Rila mountains on horseback and was wondering if anyone had any info? I'm a keen rider and would love the idea of going for even a sedate wander round the mountains (particularly if the snow gets bad it would be cool if there was an option be able to go for a ride!)
Heard about ski-dooing etc as well; any other ideas for excursions/ other activities that are worth checking out ...
Hi all,
Konw this is prob gonna seem really random but Ive read somewhere that you can go trekking up in the Rila mountains on horseback and was wondering if anyone had any info? I'm a keen rider and would love the idea of going for even a sedate wander round the mountains (particularly if the snow gets bad it would be cool if there was an option be able to go for a ride!)
Heard about ski-dooing etc as well; any other ideas for excursions/ other activities that are worth checking out apart from the bars (which of course is no question... ) like maybe ice skating or decent places to visit that dont take out like a whole day, just maybe a few hours in an afternoon or something?
They do do horse trekking in Borovets. Haven't a telephone number but you can usually find them just past The Rila Hotel (on your left) opposite the Alpine Hotel / Titanic restaurant. They are on the corner of the road that comes out from behind the Rila. Never been myself so can't tell you prices.
No ice skating in Boro but you could get bus from outside Hotel Ela down to Samokov Town (1/2 lev). Restaurants are cheaper and more authentic food. Believe there's an ice rink in main square but never tried it. There's also a smaller ski slope in the town with new chair lift - if there's enough snow. Taxis into town are around 15 lev and 20 lev return journey but negotiate price before getting in. My favourite restaurant is the Little House, very quaint and old, brilliant food ...

Bowling in Samokov Hotel but is popular so book in advance. You could also do sledging outside the Rila under floodlights. You can hire sit on sledges with steering wheels that really move.
The other place I love is Maliovitsa, a smaller skiing area a few miles away, but for half day you would really need a taxi as it would take too long by bus.
Hope this helps but I'm sure you will have enough snow to keep you busy on slopes all day.
Went on horses to Black Rock in January, Fab in the snow. it was about 80 lev each and is a 2.5 hour treck in total, had a really fab time - go past the Rila and opp the Alpine Hotel, ask for Butch he is the owner and gave us a good deal.
