charliemoonhead lol, think about it... your paperwork will be in english therefore it wont be much difference in them or you ringing the number and actually speaking to someone on the phone

anyway back on topic, the main query was would anything actually happen if someone hit you and you got their insurance details, as obviously thats a question you'd ask them

It seems that although its a question everyone would ask you end up claiming on your own insurance anyway...

Hello Dave,

I witnessed an accident on the mountain, where the emergency services had to attend.

They were asking the injured person about their insurance. It was if they were making a decision about where (and how) to take this person, and were much happier when the injured person produced their holiday insurance details....which incidently were in English (also)

I also witnessed a moped incident in Spain, where the emergency personnal wouldnt treat the person untill they showed ...

I think it is safer to have your details with you....from experience anyway. Its similar to private medical insurance here in Ireland....the hospitals love you if you have private medical insurance.....without it you are in the poor house!!!

Fair points

Before when I’ve got insurance through direct travel they sent out a pack aswell as a bendy credit card that you could take with you, had phone numbers and policy numbers.

Now i’m insured through my bank (Lloyds) I have the insurance booklet (A5 and fairly bulky) and nothing else. The phone number they give for use abroad takes you straight through to Axa insurance where I imagine they use name, dob, address and account number details to verify things.

Sooo if someone hits you, then get as many details as possible, but if they don’t have insurance or refuse to give you any of their details then its tough. You’ll be claiming from your insurance anyway and the guilty party is free to go on their way.... unless of course you feel they deserve a ‘talking to’ first

Niki

As per Dave S comment, I am insured with my bank. I don't have a piece of paper I can hand out with details on, I don't need it, it's a simple phone call. No need for sarcasm....

Dave S - same place for my insurance, I have had call to claim on them before. As the policy number is your bank account number, think we could both be forgiven for not wanting to write this down or out it in our phones......

re: If someone crashes into you - insurance question..

It is useful to have your insurance details on you up the mountains. someone we met on our flight back needed help and the ski police team/ medics were very helpful after she pulled out her insurance details. Its worth taking a copy and putting it in your ski jacket. especially after reading some of the stuff thats been happening to people recently!!!

re: If someone crashes into you - insurance question..

As previously stated, as I'm with my bank, I don't have a bit of paper stating I have insurance. There isn't a policy document, or a card with the details on, nothing. So all I can do is call them up and give them my personal details.
