re: Is Pamporovo finished?

There are a lot of comment I agree with on this thread, and yes if I could go back to how it was years ago I would be more than happy. But the original comment was Is Pamporovo Finished - which of course it is not!

Let me compare it to a football team. Everybody wants their team to do well, and many more flock to the games when they are flying high. But when results start to go against them, the part time supporters drift away and decide to follow Man Utd or Chelsea simply because they ...

Let me compare it to a football team. Everybody wants their team to do well, and many more flock to the games when they are flying high. But when results start to go against them, the part time supporters drift away and decide to follow Man Utd or Chelsea simply because they are better sides. Whereas the die-hard supporters keep going week in week out supporting their team through thick and thin until the good times return.

Pamporovo is the same to me, THEY are my football team and at the moment they are in danger of relegation. However, I will continue to support them through this uncertain time and hope that the glory days will return - along with the lost supporters who once cheered the team, but now seem to be ready to twist the knife when things are less favourable.

Pamporovo can do many things to improve. Snow cannons, price watch, and a greater control over the profit mongers who have infiltrated our resort.

It will rise again, of that I am sure and I will remain one of it's strongest supporters through these uncertain times. Not for any financial gain, as I have no financial or property interest in the resort whatsoever, nor do I have any financial interest in this site. It is just my favourite place in the World and I will continue to support it as I do Cardiff City - the the 2008 FA Cup Finalists - and who in their right mind would have beleved that possible Razz

Pamporovo is not finished - it's merely having a half time bollocking Very Happy

I understand what you mean PP, but the football team you support dont try to rip you off like some bars and restaurants in Pamporovo do. I have no problem paying a bit more for food, drinks etc, but then I also expect some service back.
I like Pamporovo, but with all other ski resorts around europe that welcome you like a king, I hope the people working in Pamporovo understand they must give people a better service.

Hi, i do have to agree that the prices have risen Dramatically in Pamps and most restaurateurs need to improve on the service, given time this will happen, I check the prices first and if they are too high I go else where. We can’t control the weather conditions but we can hope for a good ski season, the snow cannons are working this year although there was a problem a few days ago but all is fixed now and it is minus 10 degrees outside, the forcast is good for snow, I just hope that it is right. When snow is thin on the ground we do need more fun alternatives to suit all age ranges. I admit I have a vested interest in the area and Pamps is not perfect, but it will get better. The double pricing system remains in some establishments but it has improved since last year, the Mayor promised to give cards to show taxi drivers and restaurants so they could not have two tariffs sadly she did not come forth with her promise as of today’s date.

You can be charged inflated rates with taxi’s in numerous countries not only Bulgaria but check the tariff that is displayed on the window before getting in or negotiate a rate with the driver.

If you are coming to Pamps have a good time x

re: Is Pamporovo finished?

Hi Frank, yes we all really enjoyed ourselves - 15 skiing and 3 snowboarding. I think if we go back to Pamps it would be in a Feb so that there's more certainty of snow. We'd also go self-catering. The long transfer time is a bit off-putting, but I think it's like that in a lot of countries. It was dearer than we expected too ( everything seemed to be 5 levs! but it didn't put us off!) Happy new year!

Hi All,

I'm also just back from an enjoyable Christmas week in Pamps.

Reading this thread and the numerous opinions on the place I find I agree and disagree.

I'm not going to discuss the snow - it's early season, you take the risk, some you win, some you lose. Green Christmas's or huge dumps - if you don't want to risk it - book in Feb!

Pamporovo today is all I have to go on. And it needs work!

For a resort to survive it needs to treat every visiting tourist well enough that they go home telling anyone who cares to listen how wonderful the place is. They don't.
It is a great place, with a lot of potential - but it could just as easily collapse as it could prosper.
With so many empty or half finished apartments and between 10-15% occupancy rates for Christmas week it doesn't look so good. Some hotels only filled their rooms for the 24th.

I agree the prices are high. Then again if you're in a ski resort with a short season and very little summer trade (only 3 hotels stay open year-round - Perelik, Evridika, and Murgavets) you have to make a living somehow.

Still, I can see why so many of you love the place and I'll be back again this season.

And I'll be happily recommending the place to my friends!

re: Is Pamporovo finished?

Hi all,

I'm coming to Pamporovo in February with my partner for my first snow boarding holiday. I stumbled across this forum a few weeks ago (long fter the holiday was booked and paid for) and a lot of what I've been reading has put me right off. I was beginning to worry that we'd made a bad choice to come here! It's good to see there are some people with positive things to say about their experience in Pamps.

I don't wish to start throwing my opinions around but I have to say that had I found this forum before booking the holiday I might have chosen a different location, based on what is being said here!

To be fair, I have also found this forum to be a good source of information and now have more of an idea of what to expect when I arrive.

I just hope that when the holiday is over I can report a positive experience!

Cheers
