Well, having just read your comments, i find what you said a great help, it reminded me to take my t.v with me as obviously i am not there to ski but watch t.v all the time. Apres ski is what you make it. go with people a bit more interesting. The rep was probably miserable due to the fact she was probably pissed off with all the moaning that was done. It looks like this is because English people stay at their hotels in the evenings. If you do venture out, the place will be become more jolly. These mehanas are wonderful, if somebody makes the effort to go inside and order some food and drinks. You don't need to say that you will not eat, just order drinks and say that you will start with some salads (1£ each). Then ...

These mehanas are wonderful, if somebody makes the effort to go inside and order some food and drinks. You don't need to say that you will not eat, just order drinks and say that you will start with some salads (1£ each). Then leave, if you want.
The people don't speak English. Of course they don't. This is an old Bulgarian town, not a tourist resort. Sadly, it will become one soon. Enen then, most bigger mehana's will produce an English menu and somebody will speak one foreign language. People on the lifts are rude indeed. That is traditional.
Streets are dark and there are pictures of dead people on the walls. Indeed, this is how they looked 40 years ago, they were even darker 100 years ago but luckily have not changed much. This is an old historic town, remember, read its history.
People who don't like all this, please go to Pamporovo and Borovetz and please leave the rest of us to enjoy the last unspoilt ski resort.

It seems Julie made a fair report on her holiday ad it was interesting to here her opinion. From what she was sayin g they found it difficult to just have a drink in the mehanas which was a shame. Generally that is possible in Borovets and perhaps this is the difference.
The lift workers and the staff in most of the ski depots appear rude and unfriendly and if you hear 2 Bulgarians talking they sound like they are going to kill each other!! It appears to be their way but I would ...

Hi EllieYes, it would definately be Borovets for us next time round, although i woundnt rule out Bansko if there was more to do in the evenings. We ski hard and we like to party hard, thats why ski dudes are such great fun

Julie I agree with everthing you said, Ive just got back from Bansko, the mountain was closed for two days and 43 of us were held to ransom because the Ski hire centre cocked up our ski hire and wanted paying for a set of skis we had returned, we were kept on a coach for two hours and made to pay, the place is run by gangsters (and miserable ones at that) we will never return. At the moment there are only 2 tour companies which offer ski holidays in Bansko to the English, Balkan & Neilson so yes the numbers of English in resort are limited this year. But I do believe the other major tour companies are waiting in the wings and letting these 2 test the waters first. Next year I am sure Bansko will be inudated with Brits and the town will then come alive as we all know how us Brits like to party!! Cant wait. Maybe you will even give it a 2nd chance
