re: Just back from Borovets

I wasn't sure about returning to Bulgaria after a great holiday in Bansko last year but now having had the best weeks snowboarding ever in Austria, which was value for money and yes rather expensive, somehow a return trip to Bansko in March seems very appealing, can't afford to return twice a year to Austria but you do get a great hotel (Kempinski) and pleasant enough mountain for a very affordable price in Bansko, it makes perfect sense for a second week a season or indeed the only weeks ...

Trouble is with most of the bars and resturants is they change hands every year, and not the same people one yr may be there the next...

So quality changes from yr to yr..

We had pretty good food in our hotel, then the times we ate out we took the recomendations of others we met out there and on this site before we went....

See what yr saying there glen about the future of Borovets, but i guess it's out of our hands,we just have to see what the future brings, also there is a wide ...

See what yr saying there glen about the future of Borovets, but i guess it's out of our hands,we just have to see what the future brings, also there is a wide variety of other europeans using the resort and a lot will depend on wether or not they stop going to boro,we could end up the minority out there and say maybe the russians the majority...

re: Just back from Borovets

I agree with you there Tim it probably is out of our hands. What is needed is competition for borosport, its not good for the resort when they control all the lifts most of the ski schools and equipment.

Hopefully when the expansion of the resort goes ahead there will be other companies coming in to run the new lifts etc...

Like you say we might be the minority out there(i'll keep going). Also i don't mind paying extra so as long as it goes back into the resorts and the country and ...

Hiya pimpaclause here`s a short report

Flew into Balice(Krakow) on the monday evening and got the train into central Krakow, we stayed the night at the Ascot hotel about 5-10 min walk from the square. Had a great evening of wining and dining in the Square area(worth a trip on its own). Up bright and breezy the next morning to catch the bus(they leave every 30 min/hour) from the bus station. Had a great evening of wining and dining in the Square area(worth a trip on its own). Up bright and breezy the next morning to catch the bus(they leave every 30 min/hour) from the bus station. Bus took 2 and a half hours to get up to zakopane and the scenery was stunning. Stayed at the Czarny Potak Pension (absolutley wonderful place) clean rooms, staff helpful and a swimming pool. Skiing is a bit of a lottery in Zakopane as all the slopes are individually run so u pay a fee as u use them( not one slope the same) it can become confusing. It snowed on the tuesday night so there was plenty of fresh powder on the wed.
Beginners - Nosal ski area, Harenda Ski area (both in the town area)
Intermediates/advanced - wittow ski area(13km from town, shuttle bus from main bus station) Kesprowy Werch ski area(7km from town, shuttle bus from main bus station)
Good equipment for hire and cheap as chips, approx 5-10 pounds a day.
Loads of resturants and bars to choose from including pizza hut, Ronald Mcdonalds and KFC. The more trad resturants serve the lot from stews to steaks, plus local music groups entertain u. Have been to Poland and Slovakia skiing and socialising many times and will continue as the tatra region is a gem

re: Just back from Borovets

Friends of ours just got back from Borovets and had a fantastic time - some places were pricey but they ate out and had great food and didn't have to spend a fortune - they walked out of a couple of places that were charging over the top - that's what people need to do and there are plenty of great restaurants to choose from - beware the places that tempt you in with a free drink (TED you naughty boy!) and then try and charge you 29 Lev for a steak! Salamander is a good one tucked away and offers lovely food and it's reasonable - we go out this weekend & plan to enjoy some lovely grubb at reasonable prices !! If we pay over the odds for the odd night WHO CARES!!?
