Good skiing most of week got a bit slushy and icy on lower slopes at the end of the week but up on top the conditions are still perfect. More snow is needed on the lower slopes soon but still some of the best conditions for years.
As for the prices i don't mind paying a bit more but to be paying 5 time more than 2 years ago is rediculous. I know they have got to make a living but they are just getting so greedy that people will stop going there and ski ...
Where do i start? OK here goes.
I know they have got to make a living but they are just getting so greedy that people will stop going there and ski elsewhere. Borosport have got such a monopoly an the whole place they can just charge what they want.
There were 2 places that stood out. Firstly i can't thank Amy and Arie in the ALPINA bar enough, they are so welcoming and are pretty much running a lone battle against the whole resort(for anyone that doesn't know opposite Hotel Flora, 1lev beer between 5 and 7 and 1.80 all other times, also food is good and cheap too). Yes it is only a small place but the atmosphere is great. If they can charge those prices and still make a enough to get by then it goes to show how greedy the rest of the place has got. I'm sure with enough support they can get a bigger place next year.
The other place thats worth taking a look at is the restaraunt at the Mountain Rescue Centre about 50 yard further up from Alpina on left hand side 2.50lev for beer and good selection of food, large pizza is 10lev.
One more thing we pay 5lev for beer in most bars and the locals pay half that! I found that in Pamporovo last year and also in Borovets this year!
I love the country and would always go back but even i will start looking at different coutries if these prices keep going up.
Hi, yes agree with your report too. They just have to be very careful out the because people will start to go elsewhere there aren't many runs compared to larger resorts. A lot of people go to Bulgaria for the prices and if they continue to rise they will go elsewhere.
I took my own boots and hired my ski's from Flora ski depot on advice from Fiona. Good equipment and if there are any issues they will sort them out for you.
Guys about the one price for one and another for the locals...
It's been going on in the uk for years, just go into the local sit down chinese and ask for the chinese menu,or do the same in the indian or maybe the thai...Try going to Rome and see the diff locals pay compare that to tourists prices...

Prices have gone up!!,it's still cheap in most places so get a grip...
OK this is the first time i've complained about the prices.
Its not how much it costs its how quick its increasing the old phrase 'don't bite the hand that feeds you' comes to mind!
Bulgaria can't compete with resorts all over the world with quality and ammount of skiing, and most people go for the 'cheaper' prices and if the keep this increase going they aren't going have the tourists they require to increase the resorts into the world class resorts that Bulgaria needs and deserves ...

Its no good trebling the size of Borovets and not having the tourists going there. If the overall costs of running the bars had increased by huge amounts i wouldn't complain but when those costs have only increased by a couple of percent and the prices in the resort have increased five fold then it is seen as greed.
I was talking to an instructor from Samokov Ski School(who i've known for five years) and he said that Borosport have got such a monopoly over the resort that all the smaller companies are being sqeezed. You can't tell me thats good or even acceptable.
Like i said earlier I love the country, but i don't want to see it boom then bust.
A group of us have just got back from Borovets and had an awesome week. It's the first time any of us have been on a snowboarding holiday and already looking to go back before the season ends! Hi
A group of us have just got back from Borovets and had an awesome week. It's the first time any of us have been on a snowboarding holiday and already looking to go back before the season ends! We stayed at Hotel Rila and the staff and the food were fine, breakfast got a bit boring but we ate there every night and can't complain for the price. We had lunch out every day and found it all reasonably priced and decent quality. A large beer cost us 4 levs most places and staff in the pubs are really friendly. Only bit of advice is to shop about for hire, we managed to get it down from 240 levs for 3 days hire and tuition to 120 levs just by trying a few different places. I recommend Alpina school for this and if you get the chance then get Rob as your instructor, he was lots of fun and a really good teacher, he had us all coming confidently down the mountain on our fourth day.
