Bulgaria isn't any close to being called third world country, however. This is very offensive. Also, those socks you bought are probably form pure WOOL,not synthetic, which means they have a nice price at the UK... Mad

re: Just returned from borovets

Please,if you don't like it in Bulgaria, don't go there!
And we really don't need your pity!
There was communism in Eastern Europe,ONLY because your "national hero" Churchill +US president Roosevelt SOLD us to USSR-invaders.Before that we had democracy. If you don't realize it's all your politicians' fault, then read some history. We,Bulgarians are a proud nation and we DON'T need your pity.Except pity for what you did to us! Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad

re: Just returned from borovets

Why did you book Rila then? There are plenty family run cozy hotels in Borovets, which offer much more than Rila. With personal touch.
See,Bulgaria doesn't want to immitate US resorts-plastic hospitality, performed by robot-like staff, who smile at you,but when you turn your back...
We want to keep the traditional warm family atmosphere and develop modern infrastrustructure. We cater for a certain type of tourists, and so do French,Us...resorts.

I've stayed in Vermont,USA in a very basic little hotel with no bathroom or fridge in our room.If I was a snob,I'd go to some big hotel with all amenities. All resorts offer different quality services.Rila is NOT top-notch,neither was the one I chose in Vermont. But I don't generalize and say all US hotels are basic,of course.
I'm glad you shared your opinion,it's always welcome.Have a great time, wherever you decide to spend your holidays! Wink

Just returned from half term in Borovets,5 adults and 4 children,we all had the time of our lives, stayed at Malina Village excellent, will stay at Rila next year, only because more convenient for young children. This was our third year at borovets and can't wait to book next year.We were and always have been, looked after so well, bulgarians will do anything for you nothing is too much trouble, and they don't always charge.I cannot express enough my gratitude for the people of Borovets, they ...

On our second vist last year we were greeted by many resort staff who remembered us and our children.
I fear the day when Borovets lives up to Charles expectations, and our family can no longer afford to go there.

Obviously it's a free country and everyone is entitled to their own opinion Charles. Howevere, spare a thought for those people like myself, who are currently looking forward to the holiday next week. A little bit of tact and diplomacy wouldn't have gone amiss!

I have been travelling the world for the past 20 years, both in my career and also for vacation. I have stayed in the best hotel's and experienced differect cultures around the world. However, I have always gone with an open mind, never based the standards on our own or the USA! and had a thought for the local people whilst I was there.

At then end of the day, go do get what you pay for, and after dealing with people like you for many years in my career, it's refereshing to know that you won't be going back to Bulgaria Very Happy
