re: Musala

No mountain covered in snow is easy to walk up.

All off piste should be accompanied by qualified instructor or advanced skier who knows the snow conditions and the terrain

as you can see from the pic, (there are others if u research it)

it does look like there is a designated pathway and it doesnt look like the kind of terrain an avalanche would come down, but im no expert and would be gutted if i had caused the trouble ...

But the climb is mostly for photos and the scenery as well as the ride back down. thx

re: Musala

Totally disregarding the fact that youre even thinking of skiing down.

For a 10 minute descent you will probably have to climb ( or walk up) for about 3 hours.

Off piste skiing has always gone on, but by only advanced skiers. Maybe im wrong , but from your previous posts i dont get the impression you are.

re: Musala

your right im not an expert and im a snowboarder, never done skiing. But we are far from beginners and every 1 has to start somewere. im not sure if you've been to musala or even bulgaria, but i get the impression when the word off pieste is used you get a vision of coming down a 70% vertical drop with huge cliffs and 6 foot of snow chasing you down the hill, like maybe at asspen or whistler. the news on musala is that its an enjoyable easy jaunt which should not be dangerous in any way. But the post is for any advice on it, preferably from some 1 who has actually been up it them selves. have you???

Musala

Hi James if you go to the Alpin bar up top - next to the mountain rescue centre and have a word with the guy's in there they will arrange a snow safari piste basher to take you up to the proposed and half built hotel.. its quite a way and i would advise an instructor be with you.. be warned though that this is a high risk avalanche area so be very carefull.. you will have to treck quite a way further up to the top but it is a pathway (for the summer hikers!!) The continuation of the Musala pathway lower down, which is a really good run for all abilities.. There is ample piste and off piste that is much safer for you, and remember that an avalanche did happen there either last year or the year before which did kill.. just go have fun ..!!!
