Blimey Caz, god forbid that you might know what is good for your child, you being the one person who is with them all the time and has bought them up.....
The faceless individuals who dictate our lives for supposably our benefit have a job to do and must justify their existance, reality escapes them as they press on in the name of protecting the innocent, and there are those who need it sadly, but in pressing on restrict those whose intentions are for the overall improvement of the child in ...

Every official body, be they education, social services or similar are living in fear of having the finger pointed, be it in underattainment or abuse, the end product being that normal parents/parent are effectively being treated as suspects in either the unsuitable way they are bringing their children or leaving them vulnerable. I mean, what sort of parent would take their child out of school in term time, possibly the same who would let their child go outside the door to play.....
The sad reality is that we are bringing up a generation who have spent their time living in a cossetted world, not their fault but the day will come when this generation has to go out into the wide world. If your genuine wish is for your child to gain life experience with you as companion, then in my mind that is a far better lesson than anything they could be taught in a school. I hope you persist in your protestations and are successful, as then maybe others will follow. Good luck Cool

Hit a nerve this one Mad

Hi All,

I work in education and just would like to enlighten you with regards to the taking the kids out of term time problem. This is something that the local education authorities are enforcing on the schools. The schools are merely carrying out and telling you what they have been instructed to say.
I am forced to go during school holidays and have to pay stupid ridiculous prices. I can also assure you that a teachers pay isn't good enough to compensate for these over inflated prices ...

re: Next year school holls

Hi A.Teacher,
I appreciate that. From memory, the letter we had given to us from the school detailing allowed time off, was a copy of an extremely condescending letter sent via the council written by some MP (who could obviously afford to take hols at half term because they probably claimed it all back on expenses) putting all us parents in our place. Hat's off to anyone who can spend their working week dealing with other people's kids! I could not and you have my respect for that! ...

However, you did chose to be a teacher and paying full whack for hols in school holidays is unfortunately part and parcel of the job. You could say I chose to have a child - you're right - I just want him for 5 days to take him away whilst he still wants to spend time with me without the guilt trip! Hope I haven't spoilt anyones day Surprised

Hi All,
Don't agree with it!! Think I also know whats involved with the job. Been doing it for long enough!!! Merely letting you know why schools have to do this.

I suggest if some of you are so concerned, you contact your local education authorities and seek advice and pursue it further with them.

Good luck!!

I have just read the above posts,I have a Daughter of ten and am self employed,I have never been a criminal ,always pay tax etc,etc so just a normal family guy,but this really annoys me.As far as i'm concerned she's my daughter and if i want to take her on holiday i will whether it be school time or not.We are going away on Saterday at the cost of £1500,we looked at going in the half term just gone and the same holiday was £2700, I think if i had the spare cash i'd rather put the extra £1200 ...

As i started this (it got a lot more heated in the winter when a similar post had another perspective on- look back in the posts!)
If anyone gets any news after approaching schools or local authorities, please post to let us know!
Ask the question i will- how can the school take kids out at term time for a highly inflated price, when we are doing exactly the same. In my case providing much more learning, as from experience my daughter (then 10, but ok on black runs having skied since 4), ...

Ask the question i will- how can the school take kids out at term time for a highly inflated price, when we are doing exactly the same. In my case providing much more learning, as from experience my daughter (then 10, but ok on black runs having skied since 4), went with the school having been told she would be placed in a class adequate to her skills or would ski with the teachers- when in fact she was placed with total learners all week and gained nothing apart from a holl away with mates.
Dont get me wrong there are some really nice teachers at her school and my argument is not with them- its for them to answer though, how the school can take them out but wont allow me- or can they get an answer from the local authority- would they prefer the press to get wind of a tory? perhaps this could be seen as said by fraser as a sporting opportunity rather than a holl (as in my case it is!)
Looking forward to peoples responces Very Happy
