The latest 'scare' on Arron should be a lesson to us all. Arron is a very capeable boarder and one of the most experienced who visit Pamporovo. If it can happen to him it can happen to anyone.
I could easily be giving you much worse news on Arron today - simply because he failed to abide by his own rules of always wearing a skid lid. Thankfully it looks as though he will make a full recovery.
So it matters not how good or bad you are or how fast or slow you go. Accidents are accidents ...

So it matters not how good or bad you are or how fast or slow you go. Accidents are accidents and nobody can be sure what's going to happen when we take to the slopes - so take heed and WEAR A HELMET!
Helmets would be hired separately, quite a lot of debate on this recently, along the lines of buying your own as opposed to hiring. You never know if a hire helmet has taken a blow and is not 100% effective any longer. You can buy cheaply enough in the UK.
Back from Trysil this weekend.
Around 80 - 90% of people were wearing helmets.
We took our own skis and boots but went to hire the crash hats from the hire shop and were given them free. Not even a deposit was needed, they just trust that you will take them back.

Hi Guys,
Back from Trysil this weekend.
Around 80 - 90% of people were wearing helmets.
We took our own skis and boots but went to hire the crash hats from the hire shop and were given them free. Not even a deposit was needed, they just trust that you will take them back.
On the last day my son didn't want to wear his and after a big family row he didn't. He wore his hideous Ugg hat instead.
I'm still sulking now about the argument we had. As usual I was undermined. If I had the authority I would have banned him from the slopes until he put his crash hat on.
All of my mates (and me!) now wear helmets (have been for the last 2 years) and it is just something we wear automatically as part of the ski garb..i.e. along with the boots, salopettes etc.
We also think that the next generation of helmets may incorporate a neck brace of some sort to increase the overall protection (obviously any development here would have to take into account the praticalities etc).
My son would be dead now im sure ,if he didnt have a helmet on two year ago in Borovets, when someone totally out of controll, slammed into him up top Gondolla on nursery run (he was just standing with the group)
I even wear a helmet not after a very lucky, nasty fall last year when i banged my head badly- (again, due to someone else hitting me at speed from behind)- it doesnt matter how good you are you need protection from others you dont see!
wear a helmet!
