Hi everyone,
We love skiing in Pamporovo BUT the smoking there is so bad it's a health hazzard. So many people have this vile disgusting habit and it affects the whole of my family. Everywhere you go there is this horrendous smell - it's unbearable and extreemly unhealthy for my children. Smokers there have NO, I repeat NO respect for anyone who doen't smoke or their children. Having lunch on the slopes is a nightmare and many of the Hotels reak of it. We end up stinking like smokers ...

SO, anyone who has not been to Pamporovo BE AWARE of the affect it can have on your family's health. I don't care if people want to die smoking, that's up to them, but I strongly object to them harming my family.
I know exactly how you feel, Kate. It irritates me too, in Borovets. It used to be the same in all ski resorts, before the various smoking bans came in. We are spoiled in the UK with our "clean" air. Hopefully Bulgaria might follow suit in the future.
It is unpleasant and I can understand people with kids being concerned but its the way things are in Bulgaria health or how they smell maybe isnt their number 1 priority. I found Sofia horrendous we went into an Irish bar and it was just a thick haze needless to say we left.
It won't be any use to you this year but from June 2010 the smoking ban comes into force here. That'll be an interesting one. Its really quite intolerable in many places, so vote with your feet and leave if it gets too bad. If you REALLY have a problem - go to France
This is all about accepting other cultures/lifestyles, i agree that smoking around children is unacceptable, however to say that going for a weeks break will damage their health may be a tad extreme, some folk will be going to bonfires this weekend and having a great time, do you know whats being burnt on the fire, no we dont but we accept this without a second glance, not long ago if you took your kids out for lunch on a Sunday there were always smokers in Pubs, lets not attack the ...

I have stayed in Hotel Pamporovo and Kempinski in Bansko, i love the smell when you walk in open fires and the smell of the weelbeing spas, these smells far outweigh the smell of cigarettes,
some of the resturants/bars can be bad and I agree I hate smelling of smoke, but the last time we were in Bansko other than the bar we stopped for a break on the way, it wasnt really that bad. As for it being harmful I doubt a week of it will be that bad and you possibly only spend 3 hours or so in side bars ect the rest is spent in good clean mountain air!!
Not that we moan about the greenhouse gasses we use flying to these far flung destinations, which the experts say are destroying our planet, so are we prepared to destroy our world and let global warming hit us all, perhaps we should all stay in uk if thats where you are from and let the planet cool down a bit then we can all go skiing in Scotland again, guess what im not a tree hugger either just find these sort of topics intersting
