Tamworth or in resort???

I've never skiied before but can do most sports ok

We're in Pamp at Easter and in with our deal are ski lessons every morning

Part of me says got to Tamworth and get a couple of basic lessons in, the other part says get to Pamp a skiing virgin and got for it there as I'v eheard ski school is a right laugh

No exact answer I know, but is it worth some lessons at Tamworth or not?

re: Tamworth or in resort???

I'm very split on this question. Half of me says yes, it always helps to have some basic knowledge, the other half of me says no. The reason for this is that your first weeks skiing will probably be the best weeks fun you've ever had. You will be placed with a group of people who also have also never skied before and day by day you learn together until by the end of the week to can ski!!

It is such a laugh you will wonder why you didn't do it years ago, but if you get some basic knowledge ...

My first day was brilliant and I personally would not have missed that for the world.

Just my opinion of course Wink

Some lessons may help, you should pick it up quicker then in Pamps, and should be more advanced by the middle to end of the week when the real sking starts.

You could take the middle route and just do the initial level at the Snowdome. That way you will have an idea of the basics but will still be able to go into a beginners group and enjoy those initial few days and the laughs that go with them.

The first lesson for complete beginners. Includes a safety brief, introduction to the ski equipment and learning effective warm up techniques. You will side-step up the slope and descend a short distance ...

In addition you will be shown how to return to your feet after a fall and learn the snowplough brake"

The danger is you will get the bug and wont be able to wait till you get to Pamps!

re: Tamworth or in resort???

When I learnt to ski I had no lessons and went into it with no knowledge at all........ended up with both skis going out in different directions and head first between some ladies legs.........memories!!!
Will always remeber that!......bit embarrasing but come to think of it.......I now laugh at the situation as I couldn't move due to my skis.............and the lady was a beginner aswell as she didn't know what to do to get out of the position! Very Happy
Skip the lessons and go blind!!! Wink... ...

I would say the same, forget the lessons, we had such a laugh, falling over, we all came down the mountain a few times at the end of the week, possibly money wasted, usually as well your lessons are for 4 hours, 2 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon,

Hi I couldnt ski never even tried them on and went to Tamworth for a basic combi lesson by the end of the two hours could snow plough and snow plough turn and was skiing from the top.
When I got out to Boro went straight into an intermediate group and had a ball!! Very Happy So I would defo recomend a Tamworth prior to going out.

re: Tamworth or in resort???

I went to tamworth quite a few times before my first trip to bansko. Went straight into an intermediate group and saw much more of the mountain than otherwise. Would definitely recommend it. If conditions aren't ideal you'll have more options.

re: Tamworth or in resort???

Definately learn indoors - we were doing red runs by the end of our first skiing holiday, having got to recreational standard at Tamworth. The intermediate groups are just as much fun,and there's still loads to learn.
The views from the top of the mountain are much better Very Happy
