i would say defo get lessons before hand. For me, the better you are at skiing/ boarding, the more fun you will have. But peoples suggestions of having your first lessons in boro for the fun of it are very valid. it just depends on what your up for. i'm sure it will be a right laugh falling all over the place with some mates. but if your a sporty person you will probably get more fun out of being better. its down to you really.
Just joined Snowdome after learning in Pamps last year. The lessons at Tamworth are about £30/hour or £20 for members but they reckon you need around 5 hours in order to reach basic recreational standard. For me, thats £150 you could spend on having fun in Bulgaria. You'll make some great friends whichever group you end up in at ski school and even as a comlete novice you'll have picked up as much in the first couple of days as you would in 5 hours lessons at Tamworth.

That said, I went to Tamworth last night for some recreational practice and they're a nice crowd there and it's a fun night out. Wished I'd known about the 50% off membership for Ski GB members before I joined though
They do a learn to ski in a day course at the snowdome which is a good laugh as well. The cost is £140 for the day including tea/coffee breaks and lunch. After end of March it gets cheaper but that is probably too late for your holiday this season. Most people who do the ski in a day reach a recreational standard by half way through the course (i.e. going from the top, in control). I think the slope at Tamworth is generally viewed as a mid level Blue run.
I agree the Xscape at Milton Keynes is much nicer but, Tamworth is about 75miles away from Milton Keynes and the jouney takes at least 1.5 hours on a good day.
