re: WHAT DO LOCALS LIKE?

Your friendship is the best gift you could offer any Bulgarian.
Other than that, if you find you have been given good service, a tip is always most welcomed.

Bulgaria is no longer the poor country it was, and most Bulgarian now enjoy a reasonable standard of living. Not what we would recognise as good, but much better than it was 10 years ago.

re: WHAT DO LOCALS LIKE?

As you may be a "seasoned" skier, I would recommend that you DONT compare Bulgaria to the other resorts you may have skied as your friends won't know any better. Remember how much you have paid for this one compared to the other resorts! and how much this resort will cost compared to other European and American resorts for apre ski! (£6.00 per beer this year in Val di Sar - can't spell it but you know where I mean)

Depending on where you are staying you may not actually go "outside" much, so footwear is not too much of a problem. If you are in Perelik or Mourgavets Hotels, lots of places can be reached within the two hotels. If you are Snezhanka (where we just stayed), you can reach the Perelik within about 100 yards so any footwear can be managed (although the walk home may be tricky! Booze Booze Booze Booze Booze Booze, but who cares by that state!). My kids went out in trainers and no coats (just sweatshirts) most nights, although I tend to be a chilli-bean, so I did take a coat. Once inside any bars, however, they tend to be roasting - just watch where you leave any jackets and don't leave any valuables in them - just in case! One lady we met did have her ski pass lifted from her unattended jacket and had to buy a new one, luckily she only had 2 days skiing left to go.

We have skied a few European resorts, several Eastern European resorts, and once in USA. Have to say, Pamps does not have good variety of ski runs, but all in all, if your sense of humour is good, and you are not going solely for skiing (lets face if, it you were you probably wouldn't be going to Bulgaria anyway), you should have fantastic time. Great for beginners. Great for p....ss heads!

You should have fantastic time - we did and are planning next year back to Pamps, booking probably within the week. (If poss, we may also try and get late break back there this year before end of season!)

ps: Watch your liver! mine is definately suffering!!!!!!!!

re: WHAT DO LOCALS LIKE?

LOL!!!!!

What they really need are some fashion police!!!!! (and I'm not even "trendy"!).

Thigh length 8" high patent boots, pink tights and skimpy skirts simply don't work (and that's coming from an Essex girl!) LOL !!!!!

re: WHAT DO LOCALS LIKE?

THANKS ELAINE FOR YOUR MUCH VALUED COMMENTS,
OUR GROUP OF FOUR ARE VISITIN PAMPS AND BULGARIA FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR. THE REASON FOR CHOOSIN BULGARIA WAS ITS VALUE FOR MONEY COMPARED TO THE MAJOR EUROPEAN AND AMERICAN RESORTS, AS MENTIONED EARLIER THIS IS A 1ST TIME SKI TASTER FOR MY THREE FELLOW SKI TRAVELLERS. FROM OTHER COMMENTS WRITTEN ON THE BOARD IF WE SHOULD ALL HAVE A GOOD TIME, ONLY TWO WEEKS TO GO, CANT WAIT.

THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT.

re: WHAT DO LOCALS LIKE?

Where you staying?

Can recommend massage in Snezhanka, really cheap and quite good. Don't expect candles and relaxing music though! If you do decide to have massage warn Helen she may get a male masseure. Very good, but dont wear g-string as nothing is covered up (as i discovered much to my dismay and embarassment!)

Beginners especially may like massage from day 2 onwards - do need to book in advance to get early sessions straight off slopes.
