We do both PB. We take a cheaper flight into Sofia and rent a car to give us the freedom to travel round BG.

FN- I can only assume so. They tend to let you take all sorts in the winter on the lift.

re: What's Pamps like in the Summer?

Thanks kokomalt - my kids have never been on horses and I'd love to take them.
When we were there, skiing, in Feb we made lots of friends and found the Bulgarian people really friendly. I think seeing a holiday place 'out of season' is a much better way of getting to know the 'real' Pamporovo.

Of course, once that motorway opens to Greece then day trips to the beach are also an option I guess? How long does it take to get to the beaches at the moment? is it more than a couple of hours? ...

Just fished out the details for Horse Riding: The guides name is Steffen, lovely fella and very professional. He has a ranch 2 KM down the lane past the Forest Nook villas. They have many horses, run days and nights out on horse back as well as quick 1.5 - 2hr tours. Steffen's email address is [email protected]; telephone number is Bulgaria 0885 621 205.

Cost me in 25 Lev for 1.5 hour guided tour in the mountains overlooking Smolyan - superb Very Happy

If you hire a car there is so much to do in the area, especially heading South.
Don't forget the town of Plovdiv & the old Ampitheatre. For a really nice meal go to Hemmingways. For the kids there is the aqua park in Plovdiv, very inexpensive and a great day out. Also professional go karting track nearby.
Another day out is to the Wonderful Bridges www.naturalarches.org/gallery-Bulgaria-CudniteMostove.htm & you can visit Bachovo Monastery.

Oh forgot,

If you need a meal on way from Assenovgrad to Chepelare, stop at St. Elena's, on main road by Police Box, by the villages of Pavelsko & Hvoina (ours) . Lovely couple, Sofia speaks English. english menu and Bg. prices. They often get parties from Pamporovo for an evening meal.
