Just to echo the warning about the sun in the mountains - I got quite burnt last year whilst doing my painting. The sun is very strong!!re: What's Pamps like in the Summer?
Gosh - it sounds like there's more to do in the summer than the winter! Thanks Carole - we might have to go for more than a couple of weeks to do everything!

I was in Pamps for a couple of days last summer. To be honest I thought it was not very good nothing to do and no where was open.It looks like I may not have been looking in the right places for things to do. I would not return in the summer, I like it in the Winter.
My family do have an appartment in Pamps, so the suggestions above are great to know.

We were there for 5 weeks last July/Aug and the weather was hot - in Plovdiv sometimes over 40 but it is always cooler in the mountains. You do need a car Suzanne, there is so much to see.Nicky, if you need more paints buy them in Bg. I bought lots in a shop in Plovdiv, about 1/4 of the price, also good quality paintbrushes.

We are going over to Bike around Pamporovo area last week in July, could you tell me where to get a good map from please, i've been searching the internet but can't find a good one.
We are more cross country too, but it's good to know that the bikes can be taken up the lift if we fancy a bit of down hill.

We found out the bike hire guy is in Mourgavets during summer, also one of the ski instructors Rumen told us he is there all summer along with about 5 others as mountain guides.
We had a walk along the cross country tracks from Malina in march and went ski-dooing up on the Perelik cross country track. They were Marked with biking signs. The two cross country tracks from Studenets and Malina come out onto the smolyan road close to stoikite. they will be great for family bike riding.
Carol, thanks for the info on the St. Elena. There is a hotel in Stoikite I think it is called St Elina too, its on the smolyan road just up from the village, when I was there it looked closed. Do you know if it is open in summer?
If anyone else is out there end of July it would be good to meet up.

Sorry , do not know the one in Stoikite - Amanda would be the one to ask as her house is in Stoikite.
I would not bother about taking paints out with you, buy them in Plovdiv. I brought lots back here with me as they were so cheap. Also brushes really cheap and good quality. The Art shop was going down hill, past the Mosque on your right, shortly after you turn right into the road running parallel with the pedestrian road.
