Pamporovo Pete

I admire your honesty and realism. Unfortunately the snow is a big factor but the prices are equally damaging.

In the UK the mark up for drinks is X4 to X5. In Pamporovo it is now X30 to X40!! as it costs only 2 lev to buy a bottle of reasonable Bulgarian Brandy or Vodka.

I hope things change but have no answers for the lack of snow. I will see how things are on the ground next week but have to admit am now considering elsewhere for the first time in almost 20 ...

No Sad third and last year going to try France next year. Unfortunately Bulgaria is no longer a cheap option although I really do like the place. The real thing that pissed me off with Pamps was the taxi drivers, so to them I say well done with your high prices and rudness you have helped chase another family away.

re: Would you pre-book Pamps again?

No I will not be going back to pamps, I was there 2 years ago and there were so many injures due to lack of snow. If you shop around there are other places within Europe that can be just as cheap with pretty much guaranteed snow.

Saying that I do love pamps but what is the point of a skiing holiday without snow......

re: Would you pre-book Pamps again?

I have to say that this is the 1st time in 13 years that I have not pre-booked and whilst there are other reasons that I am not going this year, I would not be pre-booking in future years. Last minute only and then only if the snow was good. Having said that I love Pamps and Bulgaria in general. It is such a shame that the price hikes and rip-off merchants have been allowed to flourish but then that's down to us - we pay the prices!

I hoping for lots of snow for all you guys going out ...

I hoping for lots of snow for all you guys going out this season, but as others have said, with or without it, its still rocking.

Hi,

We are going to Borovets this Feb (half term), been to Pamps last four years and whilst we think the place is great, especially for beginners, the unpredicatable snow is the issue and for us the skiing comes first, then the apres-ski.

Afraid I'm with the consensus - a NO from me too.
Went there last year for the 3rd time and was disappointed - the snow conditions deteriorated very quickly and we were skiing on slush most of the day (the connecting run down to base station was a veritible flood plain!). Prices in the pubs and restaurants were uber-hiked from previous years and I just got a feeling of 'well we've seen the best days here - time to move on somewhere else'.
One thing though - I will never forget the ...

One thing though - I will never forget the overnight snow dump we had in Pamps in Jan 2005 - a couple of feet in 12 hours!! Been to a few places in Europe over the years and still seen nothing like it!

re: Would you pre-book Pamps again?

I think it's a no from me too. I'd definitely book very, very last minute if there was decnt snow as we had such a laugh over there last week...after we settled, was a bit of a mixed up first few days for us.
Just been having a gander on the net and you can go to north america for around £150 a week more so I think I'd rather pay the extra bit more for pretty much guaranteed decent snow! Last time I went over there we were wading through 2 feet of fresh powder snow almost every day. Never ...

As Oldieski says "I just got a feeling of 'well we've seen the best days here - time to move on somewhere else".

Pamporovo Pete and Fluter - I'm not sure what posts you are reading but i suggest that you forget the 'nice people, nice place' fall back senario that you both like to emphasise so much. You cant sell a SKIING holiday like that.

What you are saying is that 'regardless of being ripped off, rude service and no snow, come anyway because we think its great!? Sorry, but i'd ...
