The majority of taxi drivers in BG holiday resorts are legalised crooks. Taxi's in the rest of BG are cheap with honest drivers.

If you need a taxi go in to a hotel and ask them to order one for you and don't pick one up off the street, as the chances are they will call an official company rather than the local villain.

Have had no problems in Borovets. Always negiotiated price before getting in taxi and that seemed to work well.

Sorry to here about that one on the rare times i have been in a BG taxi i fix the price first before we move off.

Go to borovets you dont need taxis or buses you can walk or ski everywhere, and if the street is real slippy (like it normally is) then you can walk out the hotel stand and slide down to the next bar, fun for the whole family.

re: bad

When in Golden Sands a several years ago we were walking back to our hotel one afternoon and the 'heavens opened' we quickly jumped into a taxi to take us the mile or so to our hotel, a fare normally 5 lev. The driver said it was 10 lev, when I questioned this he said "Yes, but its raining" !

All over Bulgaria taxi drivers sit outside hotel hoping that a tourist will not notice the absorbanent charges displayed. Ask how much the journey is going to be if in doubt. Ask the receptionist to call you an OK taxi. If when you arrive at your destination and you are sure that you have been over charged from the displayed tariff do not pay and call the police, let them deal with the situation.

Bulgarian taxi's are no different to any other throughout the world, if they can get away with it they will. The reason why this behaviour continues is that people allow it to happen due to naivety. fore warned is fore armed

re: bad

never used a taxi in BG other than airport pick up and fare was pre agreeded, although in this country I have paid major differences for a cab the same distance, when questioned just told I was charged wrong last time. Confused
