Another ski road tale.
3 Seasons ago skiing down with my 7 year old daughter, we were just approaching the bridge when she said ''Dad that man has no clothes on'' Ok sweetheart I'm sure. I don't ski with my glasses on and anything more than 5 meters away is a wee bit blurred.
''DAD, DAD, that man has no clothes on!'' Huh huh, ok sweetheart.

As we got a bit closer and I squinted like Mr Magoo to see, my nearly hysterical daughter shouting to ensure that I understood about the now completley naked man making his way down to the river for a dip was waving at us.
We skied past and waved back. This may not have been a fast descent, but my daughter has told the story of the naked skier and her blind doubting dad for 3 years to anyone who will listen.

Dont want to sound like a killjoy but if theres going to be loads of beginer/ intermediate skie'rs hurtling down that ski road at 4.00 on an afternoon I'd be avoiding it at all costs, its bad enough watching the instructors fly by! My missus was wiped out down there one year by a lunatic on a snow board, it took me most of the week to convince her to have a go then wham- bam and that was it, she's not been down it since, that run should have a speed limit on it defo.

Isn't that the same as the rest of the mountain anyway? I got wiped out three times in one day last year by people skiing/boarding on their backsides/face.

Obviously exactly the same level of respect, courtesy and etiquette should be employed as should be on any run at any time.

I doubt I'll be flying - I reckon I will be lucky if I get close to doing it in under an hour - but still, its all part of the fun!

I have seen one or two folk wiped out on the ski road and have always made the point to ensure I and particularly my son stay out of the way over on one side. It is true for all slopes I agree but I think the difference with the ski road is that it is just that - a road - so there is no the width of some runs and it does seem popular by some to scream down there at high speed - either racing others or just getting the thrill of it themselves. This seems to be more the case at the end of ...

This seems to be more the case at the end of the day as I guess for many to end the day whizzing down there at high speed is the final adrenaline rush of the day. Just take care folks!

If your reasonably competent on skis/snowboard go down at the very end of the day after the gondola shuts when near dark, there are street lights over most of the run and it's just a blast of a few instructors and mountain workers and the odd skidoo, most of the beginners have made it safely to Happy End bar so no harm to do to anyone. Very Happy

it would be nice to see everyone have a go but please do respect others no matter what skill level they are, a few years ago a friend of prince charles lost his life on the ski road what caused it to happen i do not know but i do know it was on a busy day and my guess he was a very skilled skier who was in the wrong place at the wrong time, i always opt for the final lift up to the top of the mountain relax for a while have a couple of cigs wait for the sun to go down then give it my all, ...
