re: Bulgaria Relaxes Smoking Ban

think banning would be the solution. Banning would help:
- encourage smokers who want to quit smoking and experience stop smoking benefits

- reduce the image of smoking as a "cool" activity/ status symbol
- raise awareness of its dangers
- it is for the benefit of both smokers and non-smokers
- it is beneficial in the long runhttp://stopsmokinghabits.com/health-benefits.html

re: Bulgaria Relaxes Smoking Ban

We seem to be talking about smoking in general, however the post was about the relaxation of a ban in Bulgaria. I have the choice of whether to visit Bulgaria in the knowledge that smoking takes place in bars etc. As an ex smoker of 18 years I can understand both sides of the argument, it appears that the majority of Bulgarians smoke, or certainly the majority of people I have seen in bars etc in my recent visits.

For those who wish to be in a smoke free bar try Italy or France they are supposedly smoke free. As an ex smoker I prefer a smoke free environment, however i am happy to fit in with the wishes of the majority of the locals.
The majority of posters on this website are visitors to Bulgaria, i have always been of the belief that as a visitor we should respect local customs, however much they may offend us.

Many people believe that the smoking ban has caused the closure of many pubs and bars, although this appears to be true in some cases, it can also be argued that the availability of cheap alcohol in supermarkets has done more damage to pubs than the smoking ban, infact many pubs serving food as a major part of their business have increased customer numbers.

Personally I think a total ban goes totally against democracy and is more expected of a dictatorship, seperate areas although divisive to an extent is at least a compromise that should allow both sides the opportunity to enjoy a night out.
