re: Has Bulgaria's Ski Resorts Had their Day!!

Well, I have been to Pamps for the past 3 years and love it, the only thing putting me off returning next year is the uncertain snow conditions.
I hope the new lift is open for next year with the new runs as without them the slopes will be too crowded if all the new accommodation is full
I agree it is not as good value as it used to be but is still a good value skiing holiday if you have a family and have to ski in the school holidays.

re: Has Bulgaria's Ski Resorts Had their Day!!

think a lot of the problems and complaints have been because lots of people have only gone to Bulgaria because they have heard how cheap it is.Maybe its not as cheap as last year but no skiing holiday is and i still think it was great value for money. If you want to get ripped off try going to London!!! You will always find people ready to rip you off but all we found were nice genuine friendly people. The Bar down at bottom of ski centre 1 even gave us free lifts back up to the castle ...

You will always find people ready to rip you off but all we found were nice genuine friendly people. The Bar down at bottom of ski centre 1 even gave us free lifts back up to the castle because they were aware some taxi drivers were unfair to tourists. Our ski instructors husband drove us back to plovdiv airport too for next to nothing. We ate out every day lunch and dinner and i can honestly say not once did we have a problem with the bill. In fact we twice had to tell them they had forgot to charge for the wine. We ate in different restaurants each time and never found anybody rude.Perhaps we were lucky but maybe we just went to have a brill time without trying to do it for free!

well said was thinking the same thing. It does bug me when a comment is written which is the writers opinion and everyone jumps on it and has a go if its not all good. I have had three good holidays skiing in pamps and bansko, but the slopes dont match the development. I would recommend either resort to learners but once you gain some experience the mountain can be limited and does get boaring.

Karen I'm sure for every bad experience there is a good experience, but in PR they say that for every bad story you need ten good stories to make up the lost ground.
I do understand what your saying, but over the last couple on months numerous people have come onto the forum complaining about bad experiences, being ripped off, short changed and poor service etc.
However, if you take a closer look at the forum, there is only a small band of people who are coming out and saying good things ...

However, if you take a closer look at the forum, there is only a small band of people who are coming out and saying good things about the resorts and most of them have openly admitted that the have investments in Bulgaria. Not all of these people complaining can be wrong. As I've said on several occasions Bulgaria has its good points and bads points but this year the bad have outweight the good.
Which means the resorts need to have a close look at themselves before next year.
Karen, regarding being ripped off, I pay about £2.50-£2.80 a pint in Edinburgh, but there is no where in the UK I would be charged five times that. However, in Bulgaria I've paid 1.50Lev for a beer and a couple of hundred yards up the road they attempted to charge me over five times that for the same beer, now thats what I called being ripped off.

4 of us came back from Pamps over half term and had a great time. I have got a vested interest in the town and do hate to read bad comments about it, but to be honest, I can understand a lot of their points.
It IS limited snow and DOES need to have that extra attraction compared to the bigger resorts.
I would love to hear some un bias views from Bulgarians if anyone is reading?
Galina Dafova... I know you read the forum and from meeting you, seem to be a really decent person. What views ...

I do agree something isnt right due to number of complaints but think its a shame people may be put of going thinking its all bad and they are bound to get ripped off. My son and girlfriend have just got back from Borovets and were really worried about going after reading this board but they had a fantastic time.Everybody really nice to them and they had a great week which was affordable. It was the first time skiing for them both and they could not afford most other ski resorts. No it wasnt ...

It was the first time skiing for them both and they could not afford most other ski resorts. No it wasnt dirt cheap for them but they didnt expect it to be. Every Bulgarian they met were nice to them and they are now hooked. Think it helped they were nice to the Bulgarians!!!They read that they would be unable to ski due to lack of snow but it was no where near as bad as they had read. Think some people always make things out to be worse than they are.

re: Has Bulgaria's Ski Resorts Had their Day!!

they were half board at rila so didnt need much cash. Already hired equipment before they went out.Used cash machines and got best rate. We did same in pamps but little tip. If going to rely on cash machines tell your bank before you go. I work in a bank and they will stop your card if they think its been cloned and used abroad. My husband forgot and lloyds cancelled his card. Good job we had others.
