re: Has Bulgaria's Ski Resorts Had their Day!!

Karen,
over a week since Mayrhofen. Brilliant. Didn't get a chance to get to the glacier, snowing 6 out of the 8 days. Really enjoyed skiing there. Jumps, tree runs, off piste, everything. Just like Pamps but much larger. I would very highly recommend (as per any resort that has loads of snow). Went with Snowcoach, so didn't need to spen too much money in the resort, but when out and about found that the prices weren't too bad.

i usually go to the alps+for my second ski trip this year decided on the 'cheap' alternative of Bulgaria.I cannnot comment on what it was like in previous years but i have to say that i was very dissapointed.Went to Boro+snow was awful down below,up top was good but pistes limited+gondola closed 3 out of my 6 skiing days.I do not think it is cheaper than alps i.e. accomadation, ski pass, ski hire. The only area it is cheaper in is food+drink. My friend bought ski pass when there,we had paid ...

I had been excited about my trip but will not be returning.right now i can book a ski holiday for next year to a glacier resort in france for cheaper than Bulgaria, why would i return.Sorry if my comments appear negative i'm being honest

Will one of these people saying they can book skiing in Austria, Franch etc please tell me where/how!
I have searched high and low and it always brings me back to BG for best prices for a family of 4 in Feb half term, which is not really a problem as we love Pamps, but are now a little wary of the snow issues compared to elsewhere.
Looking at Livigno in Italy next year but it will cost at least £300-£400 more than Pamps (this is DIY booking for both).

Pamps should be ok in early Feb, in the last 4 years only 07 was bad in Feb like everywhere in Europe.

to Simon Ski
I just did a search on directski.com for package holidays next year and alp d'huez came up cheaper than any bulgarian resort.obviously expect to pay more for food drink but the package is cheaper.I usually book DIY though,as soon as ryanair etc release their flight schedules for next year u can get to grenoble, france for 25pounds return, all in.Best of luck finding the best deal and i hope the snow is good wherever you decide to go.

Before I went to Bulgaria I went on this site a lot and read everyones comments. Due to how many people go back every year and post on this site I was prepared to give Bulgaria the benefit if the doubt.
Before Bulgaria I had only every been to Finland skiing where there is really no such thing as a green or blue run and finland has a reputation as expensive. So I was really looking forward to going to Borovets.

When I got to Bulgaria I was very disappointed, I thought I had realistic expectations after reading the posts. But almost every negatitive point was confirmed while there. The redeeming feature was the friendly people I met who were fellow tourists. Therefore I will not be back. The food and drink, lift passes and equiptment I found to be more expensive than Finland. The equiptment was largely quite dated and not maintained very well neither were the slopes! The gondola was closed for three out of six days (which was largely due to the weather I am sure) but frankly we had nothing to do apart from drink and when I went to ask out receptionist for ideas of other things to do she said tourists just drink and there was nothing else to do.
Apart from the fact the Bulgarians (apart from the man who took us horseriding) made me feel like a cow being milked, I only have four weeks holiday a year and I would rather go somewhere where I feel they appreciate the money tourism bring and reinvest it.
Goodbye Bulgariaski

I have to agree with the above comment. My exprience was the same but some people seem to love the place and return every year. I for one will not and will stick to the Alps

Steve, why do you post so much on this site if you don't like the place?

Stevie D,

Like you I also have vested interest (in Bansko), so am not don't really want to hear negative comments as I love it,but why shouldn't Steve post, he's not being abusive, he's been there so has a right to comment on his experience, just as much as you or anyone else has.
