Has anyone skiied in Andora?

Hi, Ive been skiing three times, always to Borovets, once last season and twice this. I fancy another week away during March and would like to try somewhere different (and somewhere I wont have to worry about snow so much!) and was looking at Andora.

It seems to be the only place that is in a similar price range to Bulgaria. I was just wondering if anyone had been there and if so, which resort is the best?

Yes Arinsal did not like it much ugly resort long transfer hardly any places to eat on the mountain and boring skiing. Oh and it is not that cheap.

March- try to find somewhere more snow sure (altitude)- though if you have been twice to Boro this season allready- cash musnt be a problem so save for next year and try a week at a high resort in Austria or France-Canada if you can afford it etc!- there should still be snow up the Gondola in Boro but as you said been there done it wanting something new and the like!
personally- skied Arinsal and passa de la cassa many years ago, was cheap then (as was Bulgaria!), and bit like concrete ...

re: Has anyone skiied in Andora?

The moneys a fairly big factor, the fact the Ive been a couple of time is due to going to cheaper places, getting the best deals etc. Plus, I will probably be going with a first time skier so dont want to be going somewhere where the lift pass/ski pack prices are high as they wont be using even a small percentage of it. Would love to go to france or Austria but the holidya itself seems to be about £200 more than BG and the ski packs are almost another £150, factor in the £5 pints and it ...

re: Has anyone skiied in Andora?

Hi
I've skied Arinsal and Pal in Andorra. My last visit was 7 years ago. I've been to Pamporovo ever since. Love the resort, people and skiing. The snow hasn't been great in the last 3 years bur it's far better than Andorra. As previous post suggests, not very scenic resort, boring runs and food poor compared to Bulgaria. The instruction is also poor but having skied USA and Europe the Bulgaria Ski Instruction is second to none. My opinion-Bulgaria No. 1, Andorra way down the list.

My 1st skiing holiday was Arinsal (HB) Jan 01, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

My 2nd holiday Borovets (HB) Mar 03 & 3rd Bansko (SC) Jan 09.

HB hotel food in Arinsal much better than BG. Restaurant food in BG much better than Arinsal.

Borovets best for bars, Bansko best for restaurants & Arinsal 3/4 v. good bars.

As for the slopes, quite difficult to say because in Arinsal I was an absolute beginner, but conditions appeared to be great & stayed on nursery slopes.

Borovets - very poor, limited snow & nursery slopes were very busy & waterlogged. Ski school transported us to another town to ski in a less commercial area. Claimed on insurance due to lack of snow. Bansko - difficult at 1st considering the time gap between trips. Rained in resort, but on the slopes it was snowing. Suspect the odd blue run to be boarderline red.

Arinsal & Borovets mostly British. Bansko Polish & Russians out number the British.

My opinion. Julie 1969

Paul.

Went to Andorra last year, for the first, and very last time. Barren, and very, very boring.

Been to Bansko three times and would go back tomorrow.

FWIW. John.

I skiied in Andorra in soldeu.. It was really good.. the snow was fantastic.. Maybe we were lucky! The Instruction was very good.. (ask for Kelvin) prices were good and remember Andorra is a tax haven ..3.5 euros for a bottle of vodka in the supermarket..wow . also tobacco is very cheap.. long transfer from the airport 3 hrs or so
but worth the wait ..massive ski area now they have the resorts linked. pistes in good condition .. lifts are good only waiting on first day about 20 ...
