re: RIP OFF

Jonny boy, I would like to know where you were getting 3.55 lev to the £ last year when everyone else was getting 2.80-2.85ish.
Bulgaria is now not a cheap holiday option and the services provided do not justify UK prices. Therefore it is not a value for money holiday for people living in the UK.
I understand that some people on this forum have a vested interest and will back Bulgaria to the hilt, but maybe its time for them to wake up and smell the coffee.

re: RIP OFF

PP you hit the nail on the head there and unfortunately for Bulgaria that is what many other people will do next year, move on.

Gogs after so much negatives-real ones- going on at the moment around bulgarian resorts the only ones left will be the ones with the vested interests in BG (working there, living there for a set period, trying to make it there, the ones who cannot afford anywhere else to buy ski place)and the ones who barred themselfs from saying anything bad for only financial reasons dreading the tought of: what to I do now with my place?

Of course there are and those who had the perfect week weatherwise, the beginners-always grateful they have started the sport at last and ready to move on and a few more types of people but I will refrain from listing them on this forum.
I promise since my ban was lifted to say on this forum the truth and nothing but the truth but at the same time to be careful .
Jonny Boy you have mixed up the exchange rates (last and this year a bit)is this your own bank you are getting the figures.
the lowering of the pound against evro/lev for a year is 15ish% so any increase in prices above 20-25% would be just milking the punters going to BG -pure and simple.
value for money in BG ? 100% not! doesnt matter what.still good nature-yes,good air-yes/no,good people-not on the obvious places, cheap drinks and good food yes only-when you go deeper and away from tourist spots

Nick Terry

I have been to Borovets 3 times before this and always raved about it . We felt cheated this time. Many of the Bulgarians who we are friends with are ashamed of how its going. Why just because i have had differant experiences to you am i a liability.

I supported the orphanage both finacially and with donation of needed items and will continue to do so . I am not anti Bulgaria or Anti Borovets just a little disapointed

re: RIP OFF

Gogs, do you really think you could get a hotel the same standard as kempinski, lift pass, lessons and a weeks skiing on a reasonable mountain for the same price anywhere else? We did the same holiday last year, thought nice enough but never again, so went to a fantastic resort high up in Austria; Obergurgle, supurb conditions but my was it expensive, it made us appreciate the better points of Bansko and have booked another holiday in 2 weeks time when we will be able to afford private ...

Bulgaria has its good points and its bad points, however if people start believing that the bad points outway the good points they will stop going.
You only have to read the numerous threads from people returning from their holidays this year to see that all is not well. I don't believe anyone is anti-Bulgarian they are just disappointed with certain aspects of their holidays that will make them think twice about returning next year.

Everyone likes a bargin but a bargin is relative. In my local pub in Edinburgh I pay £2.60 a pint but I know for a fact the the person serving it is earning £7 per hour. But in Bansko I'm regularly charged £2 a pint and the person serving it is earning about £1 per hour. Which leads me to believe that greedy bar owners a creaming off an awful lot of profit. I would quite happily pay £2.60 for a pint in Bansko if I thought the staff were earning £7 per hour.

The other argument I've heard is that prices are higher to allow them to improve facilities. I was always lead to believe that you speculate to accumulate and not vice versa.

I to experienced an incident in the Buzz bar and to be honest was extremely scared and uncomfortable and I would support whole heartedly the warning that Lizzie has given to you all. A couple of us went into the Buzz bar and whilstr I do not drink the others were. The bar staff appeared extremely friendly and were giving free shots etc. On e bar man gave a lad in our group a pint glass with two straws and the bar man and my friend then drank it. My friend was then thrown out alone for nothing more than dancing leaving his coat and phone behind as he did not have chance to pick them up. We obviously follwed him out and saw the bouncers threatening him and ripping his gold chain off. They were threatening to knife and shot him and refused to let him in for his belongings or indeed let any of us back in to get his stuff.

The lad who this happend to appeared then to be hallucinating and actually thought then he had been stabbed. The morning after he woke up unable to remember anything and without any hangover. I would put good money down that he had been drugged. Thinking back it was obvious from the way that he had been acting.

The morning after we went to try and get his stuff back and whilst we got his coat we were told there was no phone and what is more were told that an english person would have stolen it. They either think the english are thieves or idiots who would actually believe that there was no scam going on between the bar staff and bouncers to rob from us.

It would appear to me that some of you are to blinded by the cheapness of Borovets to see what is right in front of your eyes- it is a place run by the mafia, a lot of the people involved in the running of bars and in particular the Buzz Bar are dangerous and to be quite frank you have the p**s taken out of you.

I actually cannot believe that some of you are saying in a round about way that it was Lizzie and her sons fault that he was robbed. Its pathetic. How exactly is a mother supposed to stop her son from going out when he is on holiday- its clear that some of you really dont live in the real world.

Like Lizzie I have been to Borovets a couple of times and have really loved it. This time I had a private skiing lesson as did my sister and it just so happened that we were in the same car on the gondola with our respective instructors. I am serious when I say I that we felt like nothing more than a piece of meat being ogled. The instructors would ask us questions in english about our husbands and then speak to each other in their own language sniggering, making stupid noises and basically being rude. My instructor asked why I wanted a lesson so I explained that my previops time in Borovets I had fallen when skiing and injured myself very badly and was now lacking confidence again he sniggered and turned to his mate. We both felt very uncomfortable and as soon as we could sacked our instructors off, complained and after a lot of hard work got our money back.

I dont care what any of you say no matter where you go even if it is Bulgaria you do not deserve to be treated like sh*t, robbed and basically perved on.
