Have used walkie talkies in Pamporovo for five years. Trees interfere with the signal big time. Better to buy two cheap £20 open mobile phones and get Bulgarian sim cards if going regularly to Bulgaria.
I know what you are saying...I have had these walkie talkies for a few months now so fancied trying them out. We are going with another couple and are new to skiing...so they may end up having more of a breather. If they went back to the hotel (Kempinski) rather than one of us having to take our skis off etc, I thought it would be easier to try the walkie talkies out from outside the ski road.
James the Motorola T7`s will not work in Bansko but will be fine in Boro or Pamps. It does state that on page 4 of the users manual.
Best thing to do is take two poly cups and a large ball of string, these will make a very good free to use radio system.
Enjoy
Motorola T7s worked fine on mountains in my experience. Good battery life. Sometimes no reception on opposite sides of the mountain though, but that is common with most makes.
I also have oregan scientific walkie talkie watches, convenient, but range is poor in comparison to the Motorolas.
Alternatively semophore works well... though remember the flags!
Well have had my week in Boro & found the WT's pretty useful, not least because the couple we made friends with also had WT's so we could keep in touch to arrange drinking & eating sessions! Ok so they are limited on their range when one is up top & the other is in the village but on the whole I think they were a success.
Have fun to all those who have yet to go out this year.
