Bansko is a horrible dusty dump, biggest building site you will ever see, several hotels have gone bust this year already. You must be mad to invest money there.
horrible food, everything tastes the same regardless of what is in it, we all survived on crisps and choc
horrible locals, rude, ...
Positives
Went with a great group of lads, great laugh
Hotel was very clean, lovely spa.
Good skiing in morning
Negatives
Bulgaria is a stinkin' rot pit, no infrastucture.

horrible locals, rude, ignorant, have a lot to learn about tourism.
packs of wild dogs, has to be seen!!!!!
open sewers
no decent nightlife. Only places to go were the lions and amigos which you wouldn't even look twice at back home in the UK.
In summary, do bother with bulgaria, spend an extra 100 or 2 on going to the alps.
I won't delete this as I will be accused of bias and not allowing free speech - however the choice of words you use is so far OTT it's almost funny.
And as for the 'packs of dogs' try stroking one - and you will see what lovely dogs they really are. I know - because I rescued one a few years ago and brought him back to England. The most wonderful, friendliest dog I have ever owned. Sadly we lost him to cancer just 3 years later, but he was a star!
Stinking rot pit - REALLY

I must have missed that in my 22 visits somehow.
Anyway, enjoy wherever you go next year- maybe Pamporovo
I think when people go away in a large group they tend to have their eyes closed to anything else around them, perhaps it wasn't the Bulgarian people being rude, as i have seen many people away in groups on holidays around the world, they are in fact the ones that are tending to be rude. But that is just my opinion i am sure.
Bansko, yes it was dirty, but can you not look past the dirt and the building to see what it was like once upon a time, or indeed, what it will be like ...
Harsh...

Bansko, yes it was dirty, but can you not look past the dirt and the building to see what it was like once upon a time, or indeed, what it will be like once the building is finsihed as it is meant to be in a couple of years? I think it will still have enough charm, but on the downside with all the hotels, will be full of tourists looking for a cheap holiday packing into British hotspots (the Lion bar and amigos) and enjoying a holiday in a british pub away from Britain.. SOme people need to get out more and explore..
And yes, i agree with PP. Wild dogs?? Local dogs which happened to be very friendly and loved a good pat from anyone who would pass by. If you gave them somoething to eat, i am sure you would have never gotten rid of them, but they were still good fun!
I guess you won't visit Bulgaria again, i certainly hope you enjoy your next holiday somewhere else more! I unfortunately won't be able to go back to Bulgaria, i would love to but my travels will take me other places in the world, but i most certainly had a great time in Bansko when i went. Quiet nights, great boarding, sunny weather, cheap beer, and some really decent food.
i am glad you left this post on ! sounds like somebody would not travel more than 20 metres from there hotel. there is brilliant nightlife there ! Amnesia ! and Flirt are great clubs !! and i would love to know where he ate ??
The mehanas in the old town are mainly excellent food and cheaper than a working mans cafe here !
as for the wild dogs ? do you mean the friendly ones at the bottom of the Gondola ? about as wild as the nightclub you found !

unfriendly locals ? perhaps not locals as I seem to get at least one free beer whatever bar or restuarant i am in , but I suppose at 1.50 leva, 75p they can afford it .
Look guys,
I understand you are very 'pro' bulgaria but I am not your typical blinkered brit tourist, I like culture, local custom, food and scenery but Bankso is horrible.
I don't care for what it 'may' look like, I care about what I actually saw with my own eyes.
this place will be dead on its a** in a few years, simple supply and demand, too many hotels/flats and not enough custom.
You comment about the lovely dogs!!! Are these the same ones the almost killed another stray ...

the food is bad regardless of where you go and we tried a few places
I am sorry I dont fit your pro bulgarian views but the place stunk and will be telling as many people as I can not to waste their money and go to to the alps.
Well done pete for not deleting this(though how you managed not to is amazing !!)
I have been to Bansko 6 times over the last 2 years and always had a great time.
Yes it is a little bit dusty this year and the amount of building is a worry but hey thats progress!!Nowt we can do about it.
Sking was better than it was in Italy over the new year and that cost me three times as much.(for everything !!!)
I've already booked to go to bansko for 2008 i'm missing the food.
Well done ...

Well done for rescuing the dog.I've never seen them in packs in Bansko but there are one or two about, which my wife insists on stroking and not one as much as growled at her.
Take Bulgaria for what it is ,don't go with any delusions and youll have an absolute ball !!!
Look - you tried 1 RESORT for a week - and yet you slag off a WHOLE COUNTRY as a 'stinking rot pit' to quote you.
Have some common sense to realise that thousands of people go there year in year out and have a fabulous time, both Summer and Winter -- so please, express your opinion with a little more dignity and less sweeping statements on an entire nation.

Bad week - understand your frustrations completely.
Horrible locals - I just can't go with that. One or 2 maybe - but on the whole and I have friends all over Bulgaria, they are amongst the most friendly and trustworthy people I have ever met anywhere in the world!
The people behind the bars were rude, skimmed money from change, things stolen from us, trainers stolen from tent next to gondola, not a 'please' 'thanks' or 'excuse me' from anyone local. They barge in to the lift queues. We met 2 nice locals, the hotel barman Vasko (off to nottingham) and the chap with a pony tail in tent 2.
My best mate loves sunny beach but agreed that bulgaria stinks.
How this place is about to join the EU is beyond me.
