Hi Banknote, I would just like to say that I am out there on the 1st of April and have read Disco1's opinion on it. As I have said previously, we may not agree but it is his opinion and it hasn't altered my excitement about going out. Even if it was a 5* hotel (British standard) and you couldn't fault the place, someone will always find something to complain about - it makes things interesting (as this post has proved).
It was culturally very different from Scotland but that was half the enjoyment for me. I found the Bulgarians very pleasant. If you tried, as we did, to use as many phrases from their language as you can, even a small effort, they lit up and one guy even sat down and wrot us out 2 pages worth!

I had a great time in Bansko.

Bulgaria is a developing country and there was poverty there, but I am not ignorant enough to expect it to be like the UK. In general I found it to be very intresting.
I would definatley return to Bulgaria and would reccomend it is a great cheap alternative to the over-priced Alpine resorts.
we got back on 18th and had a decent trip , my second time out to Bansko and Jans first
The food is intersting , we ate in Mehana's apart frm 1 meal at lions and one in amigo's (the 2 most expensive meals we ate ) and both below the average we got for quality.
The dogs are mostly friendly and it is a dust pit at the moment ... but it will improve esp if development is restricted.

To get nightlife / shopping / more resteraunts the resort needs more people so you need more hotels and apartments ... and more flights but these will arrive as demand for bulgaria is clearly there.
The people do not smile generally and are not good with eye contact but we have to remember where they came from and the huge changes being forced on the local population by the likes of disco..
For me bulgaria is a work in progress , I am glad I saw it early ish and hope the place develops in the right kind of way so basic services can cope
The roads are going in and improving, the locals will learn about service and the whole experience will change .... will it be an improvement , time will tell
