What's the difference between a skiboard beginner and a skiboard instructor? About 3 days............
...................but, seriosuly, as a skier, i don't really mind them UNTIL you round a bend and there are four boarders sat on their bums on a wide piste admiring the view with their boards in a line across the piste, allowing maybe 18"for skiers to pass by.
I think snowboarding is a lot more tiring for beginners as you are constantly on your toes or heels and it just drains your legs completely and its no wonder they spend a lot of time sitting down. As you get better though and your technique improves you don't spend as much time on them so makes it less tiring.
As for off piste that is where snowboarding comes alive. I hardly ever stick to the pistes if there is fresh powder as it is the best feeling in the world to glide through.

I'll take nothing away from skiers though the group I always go with has one permanent skier and he goes where ever we go and can pull me along over flat spots
