no it aint first aid - they are aviation medical trained pete. Also the the pre-flight briefing is actually a safety briefing - ie individual crew members are tested on sep knowledge. If they were just waitresses in the sky - then this strike would be no problem as the passengers could take a sandwich and drink and still fly, but as they are there for safety reasons the flight cannot go. Jocrad - this idea of being grateful for a job at the minute i agree with but it ...

I work in Financial Services and am myself being made redundant next year. I know friends in the industry that have had salary cuts just so their employers can survive - we just have to get on with it, pick ourselves up and move on. Our employers aren't a name that everyone knows like BA, so we just have to grin and bear it, if we shouted from the rooftops nobody would give a flying banana. I know friends in the industry that have had salary cuts just so their employers can survive - we just have to get on with it, pick ourselves up and move on. Our employers aren't a name that everyone knows like BA, so we just have to grin and bear it, if we shouted from the rooftops nobody would give a flying banana. The point I am trying to make is that so many more people are making sacrifices and suffering due to the current climate, but the cabin crew seem to think they can go ahead with this strike and the whole country will support them - despite the fact that are in as bad or worse positions as these staff that still have the comfort of employment. Too much of a good thing for too long, then reality bites....
I think 'companies to take advantage' is a bit rich Tom. Are the cabin crew not 'taking advantage'?
If they wanted to make a point they could have worked to rule, refused overtime, refused to serve food and drink on the flights, lots of ways to protest without ruining peoples lives. This would still have caused mayhem but people would still have been able to go about their lives and get the holidays they have paid for and deserve.
So if they don't care about me - I don't care about ...

I cannot see ANYBODY booking a flight in the future with BA for a very long time.
Interesting debate, well done Tom for keeping your patience despite some baiting, glad you didnt bite.
PP, your job description bit was quite interesting. Your point though could cover most jobs. Why not apply the same logic to what you do and see if you still feel the same way. I've just broken down what I do and I've realised that I dont do that much actually.

And I say hats off to the union. They represent an awful lot of low paid people in the public sector who would undoubtedly be taken further advantage of if not for their representation.
yea but if wasnt for the Union, Willie Walsh would wipe the floor with the Heathrow lot! not sure where on the website that job description came from, nothing I've ever seen before.
When I say hats off to the union I mean in general, not only in relation to this BA job. I see you are anti union and I was just making the point that Unite are actually a very good union that help out lots of underpaid people and act as guardians of their interests across the entire country.
We are an industrial nation and strong worldwide because of it. None of that would have been possible without workers rights.
I wasnt disputing what you said about job description just that ...

I wasnt disputing what you said about job description just that its not a very good argument. I dont know what you do but if you listed it in the same way you did for the BA staff then I bet at the end you could come to the same conclusion that it too is not exactly a tough job.
