Well, I might aswell comment on this thread... Very Happy

Been visiting this site for years having visted Borovets for the previous 7 years and personally the following is my reasons for loss of interest in the forum recently:

1. Orphanage subject - think this was very full on last year and in your face and agree that to new posters / visitors it would of been off-putting

2. I don't know what the facts say but I would imagine there may be less visitors to Bulgaria compared with previous ...

1. Orphanage subject - think this was very full on last year and in your face and agree that to new posters / visitors it would of been off-putting

2. I don't know what the facts say but I would imagine there may be less visitors to Bulgaria compared with previous years due to price increases / snow conditions etc??

3. And the factor that has put me off the most is the way you get slated when you have a negative comment on Bulgaria, I love the place; as I say been there for the last 7 years, and will definately return in the future (even if it's just to go back to Alpina lol) but personally Bulgaria has gone backwards a bit in recent years but should you ever leave a comment along those lines you get nothing but abuse from the so called 'hardcore' Bulgaria fans! Therefore I no longer waste my time giving my opinions.

Anyway, that's my piece. Love Borovets, normally enjoy this forum and i'm sad to say that this season we will be going elsewhere for our ski trip! Look forward to returning in the future Booze

Just a note is it not really good to see an excellent discussion with no bitching or name calling?

re: Can this forum be revived?

So moving forward how do we get the latest, current and accurate info about the resorts?

My assumption is that there is a lot off dormant discussion board readers that have been watching this site, like myself for sometime, and others who have purchased property that don't contribute.

I would like to start the contribute by asking who are the moderators and do they own to web site?

If so can they update the piste maps?

I would like to start the contribute by asking who are the moderators and do they own to web site?

If so can they update the piste maps?
Can they inform us of the rates for ski passes?
Can they confirm the discounts on passes for regular users, and the definition of a regular user?
Can they let people know when they shut the lifts for maintenace, always on a regular basis?
Can they let us know when they anticipate peak periods (western and eastern europe don't all have school terms toghether do they?)
Can they give us proper weblink pages for the web cams so we can see it for ourselves, and not just the one they want us to see?
When will they stop talking about snow cannons and just instal them?
Can anyone confirm that the Perilik projects exist, and if so what is it?

The list will go, I am sure for all readers, and alot of peple have a vested interest in the sucsess of all Bulg Ski resorts but someone needs a positive spin on the web, the forum and the resorts, but more importantly it need to be current and accurate.

Who is in charge and what are they in charge off?

re: Can this forum be revived?

Quite possible but i dont think it will ever reach the heights of 2-3 years ago. I remember a post stating how many people had posted in one particular day ( i think it was 1000 or 2000 ), in comparison to 50 on a good day now. (maybe its more, but doesnt appear to be). Several reasons for it, most of mentioned above.

Perhaps one of the biggest reasons IMHO is that one of the main attractions to Bulgaria is no longer. Namely that it was cheap. They shot themselves in the foot. Too greedy too quickly and the massive escalation in prices put people of. For around the same price you can ski elsewhere in europe with significantly better infrastructure and slopes. Hence a reduction in overall demand for the bulgarian "product".

The economic crisis.

The global downturn and a significant number of poeple who have had their fingers well and truely burned with the purchase of property.

The proliferation of orphanage threads.

The competion of some posters for the "most worthy award".

to name but a few. ( dont shoot the messenger)

re: Can this forum be revived?

Having only discovered this forum a few days ago I must say it seems uber informative and a great way to get an insight into what will be my first trip to Bulgaria.

A casual observation and a question remain (though don't bite my head off - I'm new)

- Can anyone please explain the orphange debacle I keep reading about in a succinct way?

- The forum seems a little too nice. Obviously 'trolls' are bad but it should have some character to it.

peace

re: Can this forum be revived?

Chris the moderators are just that we only have access to the forum, we do not own the site nor do we have any say as to what content goes on it.

It is worth bearing in mind also that the owners of the site do not have to provide a forum for us to use.

re: Can this forum be revived?

Granted, but the forum provides a source of traffic through their webpage and I get a bit annoyed that the forum is always pitched as 'we should be grateful they even provide it' - we provide for free content and information that brings people to their site and the hits that raises it on Google etc. If they didn't have a forum they'd have a tiny fraction of visitors. It is churlish to keep deleting ads from individuals even if their services are to some degree competing - although most don't ...

It is churlish to keep deleting ads from individuals even if their services are to some degree competing - although most don't offer the packages sold through this place. Guiding services are not offered through the webpage so why delete Lewis's offering?

Just seems rather one sided.
