Can this forum be revived?

Following on from an earlier thread about how quiet this forum has become and from DW's observations - can this forum be reverted back to what it once was with the multitude of posters literally (almost) glued to their screens waiting for the next post?

I have been visiting this forum and visiting Bulgaria (Bansko) for the last 6 or 7 years now and I too have noticed the drop in the number of people posting and responding to threads.

In years gone by, by this time of year, this forum would be flooded with ski/board related questions, comments, banter and general winter wonderland gossip - not any more!

Could it really be that all the orphanage, property and other non ski/board related threads have "chased away" all the ski/board enthusiasts?

What is everyone's thoughts?

re: Can this forum be revived?

I think this is the case as maybe the board was taken over by other issues. Unfortunately the negativity put out by Mikey and others for whatever their sad reasons may be off putting to other users. Crying

re: Can this forum be revived?

Have been thinking the same Hornster. Is it the credit crunch biting? Is it people are not choosing Bulgaria? Is it the trolls that are hell bent on causing trouble?

My thoughts on the orphanage debacle of last season i.e I was not happy with the way it took over the whole of the forum for what is/was the busiest time almost certainly drove away posters.

Also the high number of Trolls we now get that cause arguments certainly do not help the situation. We do have a 2 or 3 hardcore Trolls that will find anyway they can to stir things up and cannot or refuse to move on.

On a forum you will always have the odd heated debate I remember and I am sure you do that I got annoyed with you and Benson for the weather postings(sorry) but we do not keep sniping and going on about it do we? Perhaps that's because we are more grown up than others!! Wink

Other forums such a s Talk Bansko and SKIDVD may well have taken a few posters as well. In the case of SKIDVD a lot of old regulars from here now post on their and do not do so on here anymore mainly because they do not like the amount of Trolls/idiots out to spoil the fun.

Hopefully things will pick up a bit and I am sure there will be handbags at 20yards and heated comments again this season and lots hope the majority of the posters are big enough and adult to move on.

re: Can this forum be revived?

Perhaps because its linked to one company. But the other Bulgaria orientated forums I frequent have also seen a great reduction in traffic and talkbansko is up for sale so I guess it is probably due to the general malaise of a reduction in interest in Bulgaria/emerging markets generally.

re: Can this forum be revived?

Dan i think it's combination of all the above, lets face it we're looking at hard times ahead and in alot of cases ski holidays are a 2nd holiday, they say luxury is the 1st thing we give up...

Then there's the troll's enough said about that...

I will say we have alot of 1st time ski traffic through this site over the yrs, that isn't so common now,we certainly can't put that down to troll's......or can we... Confused

Have to agree with most of these comments. I've been browsing this site for the last couple of years and i'm glad i'm not the only saddo checking it out most days!

I post comments if i feel i can help people out but do have to say i've been pretty shocked with some of the banter lately. Is all this bickering playing into these trolls hands? They seem very keen on upsetting the whole board and putting off other users, unfortunatley they seem to be succeeding!

I have always found this ...

I have always found this site very helpful. I do use the other sites as well but have to say this was always my favourite.

re: Can this forum be revived?

I have lurked quietly here since I discovered this forum 2 years ago. I found the information and advice available here very useful before our trips to Pamporovo and Borovets. Returning to Boro in February.

I still have a look at the topics on the discussion board most days, especially at this time of year, but I post rarely, and only then if I have something useful to contribute back.

Thinking back to last season and how different it was to the year before, I feel that a fair number of new visitors would have been put off. I would have been had it been my first year here. You will always get first timers to Bulgaria wanting information finding this website, and those arriving here this year will hopefully find themselves welcome and stick around.

I think everyone using internet forums expects a troll or two, and it doesn't bother me much unless it gets personal (and that is one of the reasons for my name here: I got picked on somewhere else when using my real name, and decided to become totally anonymous from then on!).

I'm hoping this site will revive over the next year or so, and get back to its old fun self!
