re: Ski helmet or not?

As we have never tried skiing before we were unaware just how easy it is to have a fall and a bad injury or like Cobra on the chairlift...Ouch!. So we will both be wearing helmets, that way we can enjoy the experience knowing we are protected as much as we can and feeling safe.

I have 3wks to buy them before we set off for Bansko....will have a look about and see what I can get, however does anyone know if we can hire them out there if we don't buy prior to leaving?

The more we get into this the more excited we are about the holiday!!! Can't wait to go now!

Cheers

re: Ski helmet or not?

we all wear helmets even my 2 year old grandaughter, besides keeps your head nice and warm, so you won't need a ski hat either

re: Ski helmet or not?

After beating it into my kids to wear a helmet all the time I felt it was only right that I should do the same. Wore one for the first time last year and it was fine. A CE approved Lidl special worth its weight in gold (usually wear the BS approved wooly hat) when I flipped backwards down a slope and hit the back of my head.
After a couple of minutes you don't even know you have it on. Wouldn't be without one now.

re: Ski helmet or not?

I'm sure it will be easier for us beginners to wear a helmet from the start rather than having skiied for years without one and having to adjust to wearing it rather than the compulsory multi-coloured wooly hat!

Anyway, it won't detract from the excitement of learning how to fall on my a** I'm sure I will have that down to a fine art!!! I'll need extra padding around that area for sure!

They don't mess the hair any more than a woolly hat Exclamation

Seriously though, it's better to have your own as you don't know if the strength has been compromised with a previous knock with hired helmets.

Thanks for the advice Borogirl, never thought of it from that angle. Hopefully going shopping for them this weekend.....got everything else we need, so we're all sorted.

Just counting down the days till we get out there now!

re: Ski helmet or not?

I forgot about the warmth angle of a helmet when I posted earlier. We were skiing in temps of -30 to -40 in Banff just before Christmas and our helmets kept us nice and snug - 2 reasons to get one Very Happy

re: Ski helmet or not?

surely you can find a saucepan that fits snuggly, it was good enough for Minnie the minx in the beano

re: Ski helmet or not?

Andrew if I had a saucepan down there I wouldn't need the ski's.......just slide down on my A**!...... On second thoughts thats probably what I'll be doing anyway with ski's on!!! Very Happy Maybe I should just try sledging instead!

The only thing we have still to get for the trip (apart from the helmets) are goggles. I take it goggles are much better to wear than sunglasses? Do sunglasses still do a job or are they just for posers?

re: Ski helmet or not?

Goggles are essential if it is snowing, along with a mask to cover you lower face. If it is a nice sunny day I find sun glasses to be a better choice!

Weather can change quickly in ski resorts so try and bring both!!!
