Just a question around the wearing of head gear. I am going to Bansko in 4wks time with my 12YO daughter,we have booked the "learn to Ski" package as we are both first timers.
Looking for some advice on the wearing of helmets (more so for my daughter then myself). Should we wear them or not?
It is your choice, many people on this board have experiences which either made them glad they were wearing one or made them decide to wear one. I was the latter when I was wiped out by an Russian skiier who made no attempt to go around me even though he was behind me (just a tip, people behind you should give way to you or go around you. I got wrong off my instructor last year for constantly keep checking up the slop rather than looking down!)
Anyway, back to the point, ...
Hey Robertk
It is your choice, many people on this board have experiences which either made them glad they were wearing one or made them decide to wear one. I was the latter when I was wiped out by an Russian skiier who made no attempt to go around me even though he was behind me (just a tip, people behind you should give way to you or go around you. Anyway, back to the point, I almost had a ski tip in my head so it was after that i kept checking uphill as well as down!
I will wear one always now, it actually gives you a greater sense of protection therefore you feel a little more confident. People on our flight who were beginners in Bansko last yr were taken down the black run after a few days so I would serously recommend helmets for you both.
My partner does not want to wear one however and this is his choice. it's a tough decision, they are obviously very benegficial especially if you fall, they keep your head warm too. some people say they don't look cool but there are so many designs avail now that this isn't really true. You can pick one up fairly cheaply too, around £20 if you shop around.
for your daughter, come on for the sake of a few quid, better safe than sorry.!!!! how would you feel just to save a few pounds. Of course they are safer.
I would say the black run was the bottom of chalin valog which is a beginners run with the top part being black. A beginner would die of fright before attempting 1 of banskos blacks.
Definitely get one for your daughter. They should be free if you have booked the hire package - they are in Borovets so I would imagine similar in Bansko. If the snow is not soft or there are are hard spots and she falls and bangs her head.... Yeuk!
