re: Ski helmet or not?

Goggles a must and a prpper coat even if its warm .... I have lost count the times I have dragged idiots off mountains that have been unprepared!!!! I carry spare goggles now and have seen a few grown men cry.

As for a helmet another must. I think I would be dead or seriously injured without mine. Its not just you falling its other idiots going into you!!

re: Ski helmet or not?

Think I will take both goggles and glasses....goggles to cover the practical side while skiing and sunglasses to hide the "rabbit caught in headlights" look in my eyes after a day's skiing! or the bloodshot eyes from a hangover!

Seriously though the thought of someone going about 20mph hitting me (going at 1mph) is frightening so I understand your point!.........Best taking all safety precautions I can, that way I can try and enjoy the experience rather than constantly looking about at ...

There's so much to take in and consider.......wish I were young again!!! Very Happy

re: Ski helmet or not?

Don't worry about age - my mum took up skiing at 64 and skied for 15 years before arthritis took over. Had a few wipe outs but nothing serious. We had prescription sun glasses and goggles made for her so she could see the trees as she skied into them Very Happy Very Happy

We take both but usually only have to wear goggles 1/2 times per week. Kids are better with goggles, just make sure they are ventilated to prevent fogging up.

Have a great time at what ever speed you go at Very Happy

You will be fine its not that dangerous really. I have been hit by someone else at speed once and yes my helmet saved me but I have been many many times so the odds are low. If your skiing you wont fall as much so even safer. My instructor said to me look out for the ones with no helmet and no real equipment actling the fool as if they have no respect for themselves they will have none for you and proved to be true. Only seen the odds one but kept out the way.

Best advise I could give ...

Best advise I could give is take a small backpack and keep Mars Bars, a Sugary drink, spare micro fleece, goggles and a mobile phone and should ensure you are prepared for most things.

and soon as you hit them slopes you will be young again take my word Wink

re: Ski helmet or not?

There are two types of learners.....
1) Tree huggers
2) Those that eat Snow

There are various pros/cons to each method.

Take ibruprofen gel for the joints and arnica cream for the bruises. And there is nothing to help you with the excitment, laughter and memories . . . you will have the best time ever . .
(and your daughter will become an expert in about 10 minutes of being on skis!) Very Happy Very Happy xx

re: Ski helmet or not?

just back to the helmet issue. My plan is to get my girl to put her push bike helmet on cos she loves it. I take it this is ok piste etiquette?

re: Ski helmet or not?

Probably would advise against that on 2 issues. 1. Get one thats CE approved I think its CE1077. 2. Warmth. I know I'm a bit of a slap head but I don't think a cycle helmet will be that warm.
My recommendation is get one designed for the job.
Got one, as did alot of other people on this board, from Lidl's for under a tenner. CE approved
