I don't think I would get away with customising mine.....I think it looks cool for experienced skiiers to wear them but as I'm just a wee beginner i couldn't carry it off!
Maybe when I'm doing my Franz Klammer impersonation I'd wear one!
I looked on the sports institute website, Helmets can kill others. Soft rugby cap or ribbed cycle helmets the soft type don't kill other skiiers. Imagime being hit at 30mph by a bowling ball. That is what a helmet with someones body weight behind it is.
You know 4x4's kill people in Renault cleos but you still buy 4x4's rather than cleos, you would rather kill than be killed. The best option, everyone wear a soft helmet, they still protect you, but you don't become a lethal projectile ...

Fewer Rugby players die than American footballers where their helmets are solid. You get my drift?
What would you say at someone releasing bowling balls down the slope? Well a skier out of control with a helmet on will kill you helmet or not.
Great, I say to Andrew's post, I was hit from behind by an English skier last year in Austria, he was speeding way out of control as he hit my shoulder and broke his nose on the back of my helmet, he also broke his arm and ribs. The medics had no sympathy with him as he wasn't wearing a helmet and was a out of his depth on a red run. I was relieved to be wearing helmet and back protector, I suffered concussion and a bad headache for 24 hours, as a snowboarder skiers are a problem hitting you ...

A hard helmet worn by him could have cut your corroted artery Snik. Perhaps as well he wasn't. Do you think you would have broken his nose with a soft helmet, or faired any better? Soft helmets absorb impact and disperse it, Both wearing hard helmets you might not have survived so I wouldn't be so smug.
A hard back protector will have added unnecessarily to his injuries. Foam protectors are enough. I ride a motorbike, we nit cars with ours, but I have seen skiiers snowboarders with the ...

A hard back protector will have added unnecessarily to his injuries. Foam protectors are enough. I ride a motorbike, we nit cars with ours, but I have seen skiiers snowboarders with the same protectors, designed to avoid gravel rash and protect against hitting car windows and doors. If you get hit by that type of padding your padding is going to come off worse than if flesh hit flesh.
And as I said about Helmets foam on foam leaves no one hurt.
Andrew, I think his nose and forehead would have done a lot more damage to the back of my head had I not been wearing a snowboard specific helmet. I too am a motorbiker and wear Dainese back protection on bike and a Forcfield level 1 soft back protector when snowboarding, having just returned from a week mostly off piste in Italy, I know that both my helmet and back protector saved a lot of personal injury. I would not snowboard or ski without protection, there are good reason children under ...

Went shopping for our helmets at the weekend, however still not got them! Will have to get on ebay and see what's there as all the "cheapies" were gone and only more expensive ones left in the sports shops!
I know you can't put a price on safety, but as we are only beginners we were looking for some affordable helmets, just in case our trip is a one off and we never use them again!.......heaven forbid!!!
