This debate will allways go on and on- best advive is go and try it- its cheaper, but after the experience, if its not for you- well move on- if you can afford it!- otherwise experience the cultural differences- enjoy the snow (hopefully!)- and after all its a holliday- make it that! Very Happy

re: BOROVETS WHAT HORRIBLE PLACE

Been to Bansko and Borovets and must say that Bansko wins hands down in terms of modern lifts gondola's etc, however there are signs that investment is being brought into Borovets so i think in a few years it should turn out to be a fairly modern (little resort hopefully) with some very good skiing, as for street touts trying to get you into the bars all you have to do is say no and they exept that with a smile on their faces, i agree that the food in the hotels is not always up to the ...

And i agree with Karen that the only thugs/idiots that you will see are the minority of drunken Brits out there.

re: BOROVETS WHAT HORRIBLE PLACE

go to pamporovo instead. we've been there two years on the trot, never been ripped off, abused, shortchanged and have found the locals really top people for whom nothing is too much bother

mind you, we are honest, polite and respectful of local tradition whilst accepting that 4 stat bg isn't 4 star uk in either price or quality

let the ski snobs stick to ski snob resorts. pamps is great for families and long may it remain so!

re: BOROVETS WHAT HORRIBLE PLACE

I went to Borovets last week Jan with wife (who is quite posh) and daughter age 7 at the Hotel Rila and all of the people we met were nice. This post is quite unfair I think. I have no issues with any one having a different view opinion of an experience I enjoyed but this is just abuse. Boro is a small resort compact etc it is a bit hard to believe that this individual was dragged into bars by the very harmless (at times mildly annoying PR) but amusing on the whole PR guys. No I reckon he is ...

No I reckon he is being unfair. There is no allowance whatsoever for the fact that the holiday probably cost half what it would have in the Alps.
Well cheerio will not be missed in BG. By the way could I just point out that spelling leaves a bit to be desired squalor not squaler
I have to say I also found the stereo typing of the appearance of our hosts a bit racist.
I do not think you will be missed !

re: BOROVETS WHAT HORRIBLE PLACE

I also think the original post is unfair.
the only thing i would agree on is that the smoking in the pubs etc is a pain and not nice.
Yes the place can look a bit tacky...but you are not paying to go to a top notch resort...its Bulgaria!!!! People are really friendly, very humble and greatful even when you leave a little tip. There are touts, but only trying to make some money and if you are friendly and civil to them they will be the same back to you. You reply to them rudely then, like ...

Food was good, although people staying at hotels did complain food was bad. Drinks and food were cheap. Snow was good, accomodation was great (Malina Village). We would good back no problem.

re: BOROVETS WHAT HORRIBLE PLACE

Been to Boro 3 times and loved it every time good cheap holiday, it is what it is for the price you pay which in my view is very good
