Anyone heading from Pamps next season - or any season come to that - may be interested to read about the Perelik Project. The claim of the Project is that it will offer 6-months almost guaranteed skiing on he Perelik
Just in regards to the Perelik project, will this be connected as such to Pamps?? or will it become its own area.. I know they are building new lifts etc in pamps, the 6 man that was under constuction during this winter season.. Didn't know if this was any reflection on what was going on with the perlik project, or this is just Pamps tryin to improve their own situation with openning up more of the mountain etc..
Cheers...
Rich, put it like this - I believe it is only a 20 minute drive from Pamps and it would be too good an opportunity for Pamporovo to miss out on by not having connections to it. It is not only being hailed as a fantastic place for skiing but friends who have been up to the Perelik say that it is a wonderful place to visit all year round - nature as nature intended.
I eventally hope to live in a village about 45 min drive to the Perelik and I am excited to see the Rhodopes being toasted ...

I eventally hope to live in a village about 45 min drive to the Perelik and I am excited to see the Rhodopes being toasted as an all-year-round location for fantastic holidays. In the summer it has almost a Mediterranean climate and it is soooo beautiful. And, when the road into Greece gets completed, if you want a day on the beach a drive over the border and down onto the Greek beaches will be a possibility and, of course, a it will give a further option of airport to fly in to.
I think I have said enough - I am begining to sound like a travel agent instead of simply a person who is totally captivated by the Rhodopes and her many charms....
Daniel - I have taken the locals opinion on this. My project manager is a local, from Smolyan, and if anyone should know if there is snow up there he should. He has skiied in the Rhodopes since he could stand ......
Have to say - that Daniel does have a point. Not only is Pamporovo experiencing poor conditions (2 years running) and is the lowest of the 3 main resorts, but if it's anything like the Super Borovets Project it could be donkeys year before it becomes a reality.
If the Perelik project does happen the intention is that it will be linked to Pamporovo + Chepelare.
There are still some big issues over the fact that the Perelik massif is included in the EU Natura2000 project - there are lots of people against the development on environmental grounds.
Think the 6 months claim is way excessive but there is no doubt that this would greatly extend the ski season - we were there a couple of weeks ago + didnt bother skiing for the first 3 days due to very ...

Think the 6 months claim is way excessive but there is no doubt that this would greatly extend the ski season - we were there a couple of weeks ago + didnt bother skiing for the first 3 days due to very poor snow - on the 3rd day we drove up to the Perelik + had to turn back as we were worried about getting stuck in the snow!
It has been talked about for well over ten years, and we all know how quickly things progress in Bulgaria !!. However, at least they have now started with the new 6 man lift into Stoikite.
People already ski / board on Perelik - mainly locals - and yes the snow does last longer on Perelik but 6 months I think is a stretch. I could be wrong, and would love to be wrong - 6 months on the board within walking distance of home !!
