For Bulgaria properties too and even more.
Do not bother, you can buy another one.
As all Bulgarian think, Englishmen are rich and they have much money, they can afford loose some of them.
I'll never get back to any Bulgarian ski resort, just because of my very bad experience.

Im amazed at the posts above - horrified for you.
I would say you clearly need a good lawyer - so why not get one which is UK based but can deal with bulgarian issues/has offices in Bulgaria. Pay more if necessary for this additional cover.

As with any stage payment IF it goes bust & its not complete then your up the sh& creek. However on the other side of the coin thats the risk with buying off plan vs completed.

There is a forum up and running called www.offplancollective.com where there is a thread on The Orchard development, as well as other developments in Bulgaria.

There is a Bulgarian phrase I learned:
to drink a cup of cold water Sad
In English this means similar to shit happens, i.e. it's better to forget for that and to go ahead.

re: bulgarian dreams orchard

it seems like the best thing to do in my opinion. The country is corrupt and there is little that can be done - the legal system seems a waste of time, so i think we should all drink a cup of cold water.
