In Jan 2007 I went to Courmayeur in Italy and again had an excellent holiday, although in common with the rest of europe the snow was not great.
As by now I had well and truly caught the skiing bug I did a late booking to Pamps March 2007,and as I posted at the time prices in Bg were higher than in the Italian alps.I was amazed by this but the die hards on this site refused to acknowledge what more open minded visitors were saying. This situation has been developing over the last few years and now I believe the outlook for pamps is very poor.
Since then my partner and the kids have been with me to
Rauris in Austria (everything but ski school much higher standard than BG) and no it was nt more expensive than Pamps and we spent New Year in Poiana Brasov in Romania ,which can show Pamps a thing or two.
Although it was crowded with locals and visitors alike it was great fun and definitely not a rip off, snacks, beer, soft drinks all around the pound mark and a very pleasant atmosphere.
It saddens me to think of the situation in Pamps but it seems to be in a downward spiral at the moment.
I'm about to start packing now, heading out on Saturday. Despite everything including the snow I am looking forward to getting there. I think the pricing issue has side tracked the main debate. Pamporovo Pete captured all that was good in his post.
Yet "who will pre book pamps next year" is an important wake up call. These are not opinions these are statements of intent.

Like Mat, the point we are trying to make is that the BALANCE is wrong. Snow conditions are a major factor but we had bad years in the past. One week towards the end of the 80s there was no skiing possible but the other factors like true Bulgarian hospitality made up for it at least in part.
Talk to any ski instructor in Pamporovo who has been there from the start and they will tell you that.
You can argue all you want about prices, snow and the detail... the fact is that tourists are not coming back. The reason for this thread is to try and discuss why.
You can ignore everyone posting comments, things can keep going on as they have for 5 years+ and we can do as we always do. Look at forecasts, web cams praying for snow and hope that the good will return.
Realistically I think that Galina and people like Pete are genuine in what they want to do to help Pamporovo. So I for one will continue to listen and learn.
wheres me skiis,i went to Rauris last year and couldnt agree more with your comments, also regarding instructors, came to bg this year as they are renowned as some of the best. x
Hi guys,
Fluter - the booze isn't that cheap, but you're right it is still way overpriced at Pamps.
As it has been said over and over again one of the reasons that tourists were coming is or were the prices. Now when you arrive, you're welcomed with prices sometimes as high as some of the Alps. And that is seriously wrong.
We all have to make a living, but it shouldn't be by robbing tourists, but giving them a great service for a price that is reasonable.

Try Chepelare guys, town is very nice, traditional resturants, and the prices as they should be...... no need to say anymore. Accommodation cheap too.
Skiing is usually great too and cheaper.
This is another thing about this area and Bulgaria. The long distance future project, is to make another big ski resort here and connect the three together; Pamps. Cheps. and the new one.
The existing resorts should be working towards that plan and not doing what they are doing now.
Pamporovo and Chepelare should aim to give the tourist the best experience together as a group, one company if you like. Instead they try to compete against each other and that is not good for anybody.
All around the world resorts are connecting efforts to make big things happen and have the best skiing and other services for the tourists, but not here.
Fluter maybe we can go skiing together when you get here. Give me a shout. Always more fun with somebody rather than on your own.
Another post later, better finish before it gets too long again people will get fed up with me
Hope for more snow everybody and enjoy your holiday wherever you are.
Thanks re prices. Will know the score on the ground next week, have been going on second hand info to date.
Galina and those seeing this thread in Pamporovo will hopefully realise that we are trying to help.
in all businesses there is a balance to be struck. You have to know your market, know what your customer expects and deliver. Pamporovo is in a competitive market and if we can help we will. It just depends on who is asking the questions and whether they regard it ...

Hopefully we can bring back the atmosphere so brilliantly captured by Pamporovo Pete in his thread and bring the tourists and good times back.
Ask at the ski school at Malina I should be out the back sorting out groups.
I saw on a post not sure if it was on here or another thread that mentioned taking people to Chepelare to ski.
I have been to pamps 4 times and am coming out again in feb and would love to try something different if you wouldn't mind especially if the conditions at pamps are not great. What sort of runs are at Chepelare as I'm not a brill skier am fine on reds but wary of blacks. My son who is 8 can ski pretty much anything I think ( he has done the wall ). Would you be ...

Hi
One of the things I dont think people realise is that people like me used to promote Bulgaria to people whe we met when back home as while we could always say that while it was a little rough round the edges it was good value and very pleasant. I now do not recommend it to my freinds as while I am prepared to come back I would not want them to be dissapointed
