What should be changed in Pamporovo

If you can tell the people responsible for Pamporovo what you think that should be changed in the resort, slopes and lifts what it will be?

re: What should be changed in Pamporovo

punters with ski school should be allowed to choose own resturant on mountains. not to be ripped off by the designated ones allocated by ski school

re: What should be changed in Pamporovo

i would spend a fortune on covering the lower parts of the resort in snow machines, must be cold enough at night to use em and it could really do with them

I think the piste signs could be made clearer. Also, no more building.

Thanks Galina

Hi Galina.

Many thanks for opening this topic. The reason I never usually comment on the negatives of Pamporovo and other Bulgarian resorts and that it doesn't reach the ears of the those who can change the situation. It would be great if you could direct all the points raised here to any influential decision makers that you come into contact with. My initial thoughts, in no order of preference are:

Many thanks for opening this topic. It would be great if you could direct all the points raised here to any influential decision makers that you come into contact with. My initial thoughts, in no order of preference are:

*Attempted theft by some restaurant staff i.e. adding non existing items onto bills.
*Extortionate costs of food and drink on the mountain.
*Preparation and maintenance of the pistes e.g. Smolyan lakes run in the 3 years I have boarded it has never in my experience been pisted.
* Snow cannons - needs vast improvement, increase numbers and regularity of use.
* Ski Buses - extend the service to new developments further from the town centre.
*Studenets - the stairs to the piste from the main road is ridiculous, dangerous and could be addressed with minimal effort / cost.
* The general view to squeeze every penny from tourists, e.g. 10 Lev car parking, expensive Ice Rink etc rather than a long term view of customer relationships; yes, making profit but looking at repeat custom. Not sure what could be done about this as it is very possibly an overall attitude to Business in the region.

I could list many more positives than negatives for the resort. However the key issue is that Pamporovo needs to re find and then protect its competitive advantage i.e. a value resort - without a tenable position in the market place the resort, in the long term may be at risk.

re: What should be changed in Pamporovo

It was the state of the slopes that annoyed me last year. Due to the high temperatures there was rivers running across the piste. This melt water just increased the exposure time of all the rocks under the snow. With a little more off-season maintenance and some better drainage systems this could prolong the season, and not damage the skis, and make for a better holiday.

I've been to Bulgaria several times, and have had problems each time with the hotels trying to charge you for mini-bar purchases that never occurred. A 5 minute argument always corrects the situation.

Still.....going back in 3 weeks. Very Happy

re: What should be changed in Pamporovo

I ditto Forest's points. Pamps must remain a "value for money" resort. Whilst I understand that the season is only 3 months long and as much profit as possible is to be gained in this time, the "resort owners" need to understand what attracts their customers back each year. What does not attract them back are 20%,50% price hikes, rip off taxis and restaurant bills on par with London.
If they don't listen the their customers they will be biting their nose off to spite their face.

Galina,

Please give more time for others to answer. Maybe a week. Many are away on holiday now and would like the opportunity to give you feedback.

Mine would be to groom the slopes at night not when skiers or boarders with children are using them
